Since March 2017, theNintendo Switchhas amassed a massive library of first-party exclusives, third-party AAA titles, and indie darlings. There should be dozens of options to suit anyone’s needs, and these titles cover a range of price points. With so many tempting projects on the Nintendo Store, a few releases will naturally go unnoticed....

WhileHalo Infinitehas most fans excited about the latest iteration in the franchise, one fan has gone the opposite direction and created a clip showing whatHalowould have looked like in the ’90s. YouTuber Arrrash tv’s brief, 27-second clip showsHaloas a tournament shooter replete with clunky, outdated graphics and competitive gameplay. Clearly, the video draws inspiration from theolder 3D shooters likeQuake, which all but pioneered the online multiplayer shooting experience. The graphics in the clip are rough, with unfinished, squared edges abound, just as they often were in the late ’90s....

Microsoft’s Developer Direct showcased off a handful of first party titles coming to the Xbox and PC platforms in the first half of 2023. The event gave a number of developers time and space to show off what they wereworking on including Arkane Austin’sRedfall, Mojang andMinecraft Legends, ZeniMax Online withElder Scrolls Online, and even Turn10 and the upcoming Forza Motorsport. Tango Gameworks, a studio best known for its work onThe Evil Withinfranchise, was also part of the showcase and while many likely assumed some sort ofannouncement surroundingGhostwire Tokyocoming to the Xbox platform, the studio had something unique to share instead....

Although it remains to be seen how they impact other maps, several of the announced weapon balance changes forApex Legendsseason 11 seem geared withnew map Storm Pointin mind. That doesn’t mean these changes aren’t beneficial to Kings Canyon, World’s Edge, or Olympus, but that they may very well be most felt on Storm Point. Storm Point is the largestApex Legendsmap to date, with a strong emphasis on verticality, stronger rotations, and more loot....

Valve is currently in the midst of fulfilling a massive number ofSteam Deckorders, but a fair few people already have their shiny new consoles in hand, and are giving them a proper whirl with all the latest and greatest games. One of these games is FromSoftware’s latest flagship release,Elden Ring, and it just so happens to run reasonably well on the handheld gaming PC. According to some earlySteam Deckadopters,Elden Ringis performing significantly better than expected, and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution may have something to do with that....

The Rampage Quests inMonster Hunter Risebrought a wave-based experience to the series for the first time. These types of quests had players defending Kamura Village as wave after wave of monsters attempted to invade. A stark contrast to the traditional hunts inMonster Hunter, the Rampages had a unique objective and gameplay flow that offered something fresh for players to experience....

TheAnimal Crossingseries is all about giving the player freedom to create, build, and design however they’d like. However,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsmakes that customization a little more streamlined through the new tools it has added. One of the biggest quality of life changes is the introduction of the Island Designer app, which allows the player to terraform their island. Skilled designers haverecreated iconic locations such asPokemon’s Pallet Townwith the tool, but the average player might find more value in simply sprucing their village up with a few paths....

Given the low zombie’s speed and their high sensitivity to loud noises, using a car may not seem like the best idea, but this is only partly true. A car is agreat way to transport supplies, quickly change your location, kill zombies on the road, or hide from them. Eventually, the pace of play accelerates over time, and fast-moving will be helpful, but the cars have a disadvantage - their gas is not endless....

With its bombastic storyline and fast-paced action, Ascendant Studios’ magical shooterImmortals of Aveumcarries many of the hallmarks of the FPS genre that so heavily inspired it. This includes the over-the-top set-piece sequences that have become a common feature of shooters, and overImmortals of Aveum’s 15-20 hour runtimeplayers will encounter high-stakes scenes that feel like a magical mash-up ofCall of DutyandDoctor Strange. Compared to this sort of amped-up action that is a near-constant feature of the game throughout, though,Immortals of Aveum’s Nocea mission feels strangely subdued....

Many of the heroes in theMarvel Cinematic Universeundergo minor changes to better fit the medium. They don’t always make sense. Kamala Khan has a new suite of powers that tend to be much more boring. Mutants, like Quicksilver, had to get their gifts from different sources. Some characters, like the Mandarin and Adam Warlock, have very little in common with their comic book counterparts. Surprisingly, Sam Wilson might be an underdog candidate among the characters with the biggest alterations....
