Portal

How We Chose the Best Nintendo Games
Choosing Nintendo games from such a massive sale list is no easy task, but there are a few key criteria that help narrow down the selection. Our best picks for games marked down by the Hyper Max sale were largely determined based on the amount of the discount and the popularity of the game. Naturally, gameplay and overall design had a hand in our final decisions as well.
This leads us to our very favorite Nintendo Switch games on sale right now.
Best Value Game: Hot Wheels Unleashed
There aren’t many racing games that compete with Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, but if one ever could, it’d be Hot Wheels Unleashed. This game lets players control imaginative vehicles on wild tracks, complete with loop-de-loops, while using realistic driving mechanics.
The tracks are placed in unique settings, such as a kid’s playroom or on a half-built skyscraper, and bring some of the classic sets to life. There’s a huge nostalgia factor in play too, with unique cars being randomly unlocked through play and featuring themes like Scooby-Doo and Space Jam. Plus, players can even compete online, with challenges that involve up to 12 players and even a split screen mode for side-by-side racing.
Best Horror Game: Carrion
Gamers who are fans of The Thing will have a lot to love about Carrion. This horror indie game seemed to come out of nowhere and quickly gain high praise for its unique gameplay and sickening design. Players control a gory, fleshy being as it makes its way from an underground science lab to god knows where. The tentacled monster can slither its way up walls and shoot its tendrils through unsuspecting humans.
It’s definitely serving mid-October vibes with its creepy music and red-tinted pixel art, but the gameplay itself is intimidating as well, offering players a significantly challenging, if rather short, platformer. The premise is interesting from the beginning, but as it goes on the game pieces together a horror story that could’ve been a John Carpenter movie in its own right.
Best Overall Game: Disney Dreamlight Valley (Ultimate Edition)
Disney Dreamlight Valley offers players a mix between a life sim game and an adventure game, all within the magical world of Disney! Surrounded by fan favorite characters like Wall-e and Belle, players can do quests and explore new areas to help out around town. When there isn’t an adventure going on, players can take a break by changing up their style, going fishing, cooking, crafting, and more.
The ultimate edition of the game is an especially good deal, as it includes all of the exclusive cosmetic items from the standard and deluxe editions and starts players off with an extra 20,000 Moonstones, the in-game currency. Players who have been holding off on getting the new Disney Dreamlight Valley game probably won’t see at a better price than this for at least a few months.
