The Setting of Assassin’s Creed Mirage

It is confirmed thatAssassin’s Creed Miragewill primarily take place in Baghdadin the year 861. With this time period being considered a golden age for the city, fans can expect to roam through bustling and luxurious locations brimming with culture and points of interest.

This area of the Middle East is similar to the original locations of the franchise, taking place very close to the firstAssassin’s Creed. AC Miragewill tell the tale of a younger Basim Ibn Ishaq, who featured in the recentAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, showing his induction to the Hidden Ones and his rise as a master assassin. In this way,Miragewill give fans a glimpse into one of the most politically important time periods of the franchise’s focal group.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the Hidden Ones, and the Assassin Brotherhood

Many fans of the franchise will be familiar with the Hidden Ones, with the group taking center stage over the Assassin Brotherhood in most recent releases.Assassin’s Creed Originsshowcased Bayek of Siwa and his efforts to form the group, laying the groundwork for an organization that would last centuries.

The shift from the Hidden Ones to the Assassin Brotherhoodoccurred in 1090 AD, around 200 years after the events ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage. So while the transition will not be directly present in the game,Miragecould end up showcasing a lot of the events that led to this momentous shift.

The heralding of the Assassin Brotherhood came from the Levantine branch of the Hidden Ones, which is a geographical area that encompasses large portions of the Middle East. This group was led by Hassan-i Sabbah, who became one of the most influential figures of the organization.Miragecould easily showcase some direct descendants of Sabbah, laying the foundations of the eventual shift.

This transition was also mirrored by the Order of the Ancients, who became the Templar Order at roughly the same time as the Hidden Ones became Assassins. This could also be reflected inMirage, showing the conflict between the two groups reaching a fever pitch which would necessitate a near-future change of identity. The change within both factions would lead to the Assassin-Templar war shifting into mass-scale conflict encompassing entire nations, stressing the importance of what this transition meant for the entire world. WhileMiragecannot show the exact moment of the transition, it can foreshadow one of the most significant events in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise.

Assassin’s Creed Miragelaunches October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
