When players talk to Volo inBaldur’s Gate 3for the first time, he’ll likely be in the Emerald Grove, hyping up a largely fictional story about the Goblin attack that players defended against on the way in. He then intends to take this story and visit the Goblins to learn all about True Souls and the Absolute.
Good-aligned players will have warned him that it’s not a great idea but this doesn’t stop him. As one might expect from the world ofBaldur’s Gate 3, Volo is going to suffer the consequences of his actions. From here, players can then choose either to let him continue suffering or to bail him out.

Updated November 10th, 2023: Volo can be an important part of a player’s camp inBaldur’s Gate 3but it can be a bit confusing on how to gain access to him. Players will likely find the eccentric NPC at the Goblin Camp, where he will find himself in quite a predicament. Rescuing Volo
Players who want toget the Owlbear Cub as a petwill want to take care of business before entering the Goblin Camp. Also, be sure to speak to Volo in the Emerald Gove which will result in Volo being here at the Goblin Camp. From here, speak to Volo; regardless of player choice, he will get confused and be escorted inside of the Shattered Sanctum to a cell.
Follow Gribbo the Goblin and Volo. There is no time limit, so feel free toget the Mark of the Absolutebefore heading right and finding Volo. From here, either convince her to let Volo go or take her out quickly. Volo can still escape eventually if players take out Gribbo slowly but it will likely mean having to kill every Goblin at this location first.
