While many gamers are focused on Gamescom, a new gameplay trailer forBattlefield 2042has been released, taking the veil off the beginning of the embattled shooter’s second season. A new map, new guns, and a brand-new specialist are the highlights ofBattlefield 2042’s Season 2: Master of Arms explosive-ladened new video.
The upcoming update to Electronic Arts' newest entry in theBattlefieldfranchise showed off Stranded, a map set in Panama that contains a massive ship, the STG Ceres, that has been beached in dried-up Gatun Lake. It now houses an illegal arms trading center, and players will need to use concussion grenades, the new AM40 Assault Rifle, the PF51, or the high-tech AVANCYS light machine gun to battle in and around the illicit marketplace whenBattlefield2042’s Season 2 starts on August 30.

Also making his debut inBattlefield2042’s Season 2 is a specialist focused on anti-infantry and light vehicle warfare named Charlie Crawford. The former MI6 agent turned ex-arms dealer carries a Mounted Vulcan Stationary Minigun, which the trailer shows off with him setting up and mowing down multiple enemies within the giant ship. He also carries a Cache Point, a resupply tool that will grant revived squad members with extra gadget ammunition that will help add toBattlefield 2042’s already chaotic scenes.
Crawford’s debut follows on the heels ofBattlefield 2042’sSeason 1 Zero Hour, which gave players the vehicle-killing specialist Ewelina Lis. The addition of another character capable of taking out light vehicles may have infantry players rejoicing at the opportunity to slightly level the playing field. Stationary weapons have also long been a staple of theBattlefieldfranchise, so adding a character with the ability to set up infantry choke points could add more depth to EA’s shooter which has struggled since its launch to retain a playerbase distraught over the games' direction towards specialists instead of its classical class setup. The game has announced it will be combining the specialists into classes in Season 3, where Crawford will more than likely be the third character in the support class.
This being aBattlefieldgame, it will be interesting to see how players utilize a stationary weapon that has been mostly lacking since the game launched. TheBattlefieldcommunity has a long history of finding new and creative ways to use new game mechanics and weapons, and a character that can drop a minigun has a lot of potential to make those excitingBattlefieldmoments that can only occur in the multiplayer shooter.
Battlefield 2042is available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
