In recent years, one of the biggest controversies plaguing the online multiplayer space, especially in regards to first-person shooter games, isSkill-Based Matchmaking, otherwise known as SBMM. The basic idea behind SBMM is that it looks to pair players against those of similar skill levels constantly instead of doing location- or connection-based matchmaking. Some players have complained that this is essentially a ranked mode and this kind of matchmaking should stay in ranked. And if a recent leak is to be believed, SBMM will also be in the upcomingBattlefield 6game, but it will be taking a different approach than its competitors.

According to leaker Tom Henderson,Battlefield 6’s take on SBMM with be team-based. What this means is that whenBattlefield 6players load into a game, what team they’re placed on will depend on the rest of the team’s K/D ratio. For instance, a team that has a lot of players with a low K/D ratio will likely get a higher-skilled player added to help balance things out a bit. While still a form of SBMM, it does sound like it will ultimately allow for more varied teams than competitors likeCall of Duty, which tries to fill entire lobbies with similarly-skilled players instead of having a mix.

That being said, fans shouldn’t treat this as officialBattlefield 6information. While Henderson has beenvocal aboutBattlefield 6leaks, the game hasn’t been revealed yet, and so none of his claims have been proven true. Henderson has proven to be a reliable source of insider information in the past, though, so it’s a bit easier to believe his claims aboutBattlefield 6’s use of SBMM than it would be someone else.

While none of Henderson’s claims have been proven completely true yet, a recent post by EA and DICE does suggest that at least one of his claims is accurate. In the past, Henderson has suggested thatBattlefield 6will be a next-gen only game, and while that hasn’t been confirmed, EA and DICE have only mentioned next-gen platforms when discussing the game. It’s entirely possible that there will be a downgraded version ofBattlefield 6available for PS4 and Xbox One as well, but that remains to be seen.

Henderson has made plenty of claims aboutBattlefield 6in the past, and it will definitely be interesting to see how much of it is accurate. Henderson has claimed thatBattlefield 6will have more impressive destructible environmentswhen compared to previous games in the series, as well as natural disasters that can ravage multiplayer maps.

One of the bigger claims Henderson has made is that thenewBattlefieldgame will have a battle royale mode, which some may find surprising when considering the general apathy towardsBattlefield V’s Firestorm battle royale mode. Whatever the case may be, hopefully theBattlefield 6reveal happens sooner rather than later so fans of the franchise can get some clarification.

Battlefield 6is in development for unspecified platforms.
