WhileBorderlands 3was controversial upon release due to its main story, its post-launch expansions proved to he exactly what the game needed. One of the best was dubbed Guns, Loves, and Tentacles, and it stood out due to its Lovecraftian focus. Seeing Hammerlock and Wainwright get married was a lovely moment, whileGaige the Mechromancer stole the show as the wedding planner. However, Mancubus and The Lodge proved to be an interesting surprise that felt like the start of something more.
Currently,Borderlands 3fans know very little about Mancubus, though his mysterious nature and hilarious way of speaking have quickly made him a fan favorite. As such, it would be great to see The Lodge’s creepy proprietor in the future, with fans possibly learning exactly what his goals are and why The Lodge has so much power. Another spooky DLC could be the perfect way to bring him back inBorderlands 4, with The Lodge serving as a hub once again.

Learning More About Mancubus in Borderlands 4
Izzy sharing Mancubus’ last namehas gotten fans talking about the Lodge’s proprietor once again, with many worrying if he has a deeper connection to the game board Tiny Tina was using. Considering his hunt for the Nibblenomican, he has a habit for collecting supernatural artifacts, so this would not be shocking. However,Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis not the only time that Gearbox has referenced Mancubus after the events of Guns, Love, and Tentacles.
Not only could Mancubus have some kind of connection to Tiny Tina, explaining why one of her characters shares a name with him, but he seemingly has a connection to Maya as will. During thePsycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck DLC, Maya mentions sleeping in The Lodge, with it coming to visit her in a location far away from Xylourgos - suggesting that the building has the option to teleport. This could prove to be a key piece of information forBorderlands 4, assuming that The Lodge and Mancubus return.
If The Lodge really can teleport at will, then it could find a way to be the main hub on a whole new planet. This way,Gearboxcan bring back the area and its proprietor without retreading territory and taking players back to Xylourgos. A new type of horror could be used, swapping out the Lovecraft-inspired Bonded with a different type of creature. A whole new aesthetic could be provided as well, differing greatly from the icy planet where fans first explored The Lodge.
Ultimately, the goal should be to explain who (or what) exactly Mancubus is withBorderlands 4. ECHO logs suggested that he could have been behind a lot of the events that took place onXylourgos, though he never actually harms the player in any way. In fact, he seems outright kind so long as The Lodge’s rules are respected. Perhaps he could be working on some kind of master plan, or maybe him and The Lodge are ultimately good, with the joke continuing to be that they just look evil. Regardless, learning about The Lodge’s origins and who Mancubus was before he became its manager would make for an enjoyable expansion.
With The Lodge being one ofBorderlands’ best hub areasand Mancubus’ goofy mannerisms making him a ton of fun to interact with, both should absolutely return withinBorderlands 4. Though their inherently spooky nature might make them a poor fit for the main campaign, another expansion being dedicated to them would be ideal. It could even be fun to see them return for a new version of Bloody Harvest inBorderlands 4, giving Gearbox a few ways to bring back this dynamic duo.
Borderlands 3is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
