Summary

Konohamaru is a beloved character from theNarutofranchise that fans have followed for years now. He was quite a fascinating character full of promise in Naruto and, as he grew up, fans expected to see great things from him as a ninja. WhenBorutowas announced, fans knew that this was Konohamaru’s time to shine. This became even truer when he was made the Jonin leader of Team 7, which consisted of Boruto, Mitsuki, and Sarada.

Essentially, Konohamaru was given the same role as Kakashi, but the expectations that fans had for him were largely failed by the author. However, now, things might be looking better for Konohamaru as his next major fight in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has officially been confirmed.

Konohamaru’s Underwhelming Role In Boruto

Konohamaru has been underwhelming for the vast majority ofBoruto. Fans expected great things from this characterwho had essentially taken Kakashi’s role.Any fan ofNarutowould remember that Kakashi was incredibly impressive in Naruto. Even though he didn’t win all of his fights and was actually beaten quite a lot of times, Kakashi was still incredibly strong and made an impression many times. Even if Kakashi wasn’t strong at all, he was a wonderfully written character. He saved his students on many occasions and Kishimoto actually kept him relevant throughout the plot, right until the very end where he even ended up playing a major role in the fight against Kaguya.

On the other hand, Konohamaru did not receive any such treatment in Boruto. In fact, he was embarrassed on several occasions in the story, and it was as if the author did not even care about him. In fact, one can even go as far as to say that if Konohamaru is removed from Boruto, not much would change in the story at all, which just goes to show how terrible the writing of the author has been when it comes to this character. He did play a small role in the Ao arc, however, once again, he was largely disappointing there and ended up being rescued by his own students. From there onwards, Konohamaru was almost non-existent in Boruto, which was a shame since this is a character that fans loved deeply and one who showed a lot of promise.

The Arrival Of New Villains In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

While Konohamaru was essentially cut out of the plot entirely in Boruto Part 1, things are looking more interesting for him inBorutoPart 2. For starters, Konohamaru is currently serving as an assistant to Shikamaru, the 8th Hokage of the village. This is essentially an indication of the fact that he’s being primed for the position himself right now.Konohamaru is learning from the current Hokageand will likely become the Ninth Hokage of the village if he manages to show some significant growth in the story. Right now, Konohamaru might not be all that strong, however, with the way the current events of the story have been shaping up, he will soon have an opportunity to showcase his true strength.

Recently, in Boruto, new villains have emerged. As soon as the new manga began, Boruto Uzumaki clarified that the threat of the 10 Tails is bigger than ever before. Thanks to the tampering from Code, the 10 Tails has started to evolve. Code used his Claw Marks to turn the 10 Tails into Claw Grimes. The instinct of the Claw Grimes was to originally consume any sort of chakra that they first saw. However, as with all things in life, Claw Grimes began to evolve slowly and, now, have developed sentience.

Their instinct is continuously evolving and these Shinju clones are now the main villains in Boruto. Currently, there are four powerful shinju clones that fans have seen in Boruto and all of them possess different powers based on different characters who have fallen victim to them. One of them is Matsuri, and it appears that she is going to be fighting Konohamaru very soon.

Matsuri – Moegi’s Clone

When the new villains inBorutoemergedinBoruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 4, fans immediately drew a connection between the Shinju woman and Moegi. Their appearance was way too similar for it to be just a coincidence, and chapter 5 of the story essentially went on to confirm this. The Shinju clones were created by the Claw Grimes biting people and consuming their chakra. Essentially, in Konoha, when Code attacked with the Claw Grimes, one of them was attacking citizens and Moegi used her body as a shield to protect them. This is when one of them took her by surprise and bit her. The Claw Grime then turned Moegi into a tree and she is currently knocked out and cannot be saved in any way.

Moegi is still alive, however, her chakra has completely been sucked out of her body. It is through her chakra that has been sucked out that this Shinju clone of her has been created. The name of Moegi’s clone is Matsuri.

Fans saw more of Matsuri inBoruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 5and, according to Jura, who appears to be the leader of these clones, she and the others simply have to look inward and find what it is that their heart desires. Whatever their instinct tells them to target decides their next move. In the case of Matsuri, all she could see was going to Konohamaru and this essentially confirmed that she was going to be targeting him in order to consume him.

Konohamaru Vs Matsuri Confirmed

The Shinju clones are going to be on the move soonand each of them has now identified a particular target for them to consume. This target is what their body is telling them to feast upon in order to increase their power. Since they are still a product of the 10 Tails, they want to consume chakra, however, instead of simply targeting any moving source of chakra, their body, and instinct have evolved to the point where they have pinpointed specific targets for them. In the case of Matsuri, Konohamaru is the biggest target and this sets up great things for him in the future.

Matsuri will be on the move soon and this means that she will come face-to-face with Konohamaru and that she will have to collide with him. This is a great opportunity for Konohamaru to showcase what he has learned during the 3-year timeskip in Boruto. Konohamaru was largely disappointing in the first part of Boruto, however, now is his time to shine and showcase why he truly is a worthy candidate for the position of 9th Hokage.

It must be remembered that Matsuri is quite strong. She has all the abilities of Moegi, which include access to Water and Earth Release, along with the Kekkei Genkai of Wood Release. If that wasn’t enough, she has the power of two Rinnegan and, of course, the chakra of the 10 Tails as well. She is a strong fighter who can push back even the likes of Code and Boruto in combat. Matsuri is going to be incredibly difficult for Konohamaru to take down and that just raises the stakes of this fight even more, and means Konohamaru will finally have to do something big in order to confront her and save his friend, Moegi.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and theManga Plusapp. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto Part 2 chapter 6, is set to be Jul 21, 2025.
