Bungiehas a rich and storied history of creating game universes with ample lore, and now, the company is looking for aDestinylore specialist to help the resident narrative team continue developing a “consistent, compelling world” in the future. The company is known for games such asMarathon,Halo, andDestinyitself, each of which has its own take on the classic trope of good versus evil, and by all accounts, the team’s approach to storytelling is bound to continue being relevant for times to come.

One of the problems thatBungieis facing withDestiny 2as of late is the sheer weight of all of its accumulated lore and backstory, it would appear. New lore books and narrative entries are being added with each new batch of seasonal content, and with seasonal narratives themselves getting taken out of the game once per year, it’s easy to see why simply keeping up with everything that’s been going on in theDestinyuniverse is a job in and of itself.

To help facilitate a lore-friendly continuation of its existing narrative threads, Bungie is now hiring aDestinyHistorian Intern. The job would, according to the official listing, focus primarily on cataloging existing lore and collaborating with the game’s creative and narrative leadership to create sensible and meaningful follow-ups, as was the case withDestiny 2’s Witch Queen DLC and its lore. For the most part, the intern would seemingly focus on preparing lore references that writers could then leverage to stick with lore that’s already been established, as the listing mentions the creation of story bibles, world-building guides, and the preparation of character bios, for example.

A franchise as expansive asDestinyhas much need for lore specialists, as providing a fun and engaging narrative is one of the big things that keeps players coming back for more over a long period of time. Newcomers with no prior experience are bound to have a hard time coming to terms with everything thrown at them as part ofDestiny 2’s admittedly faulty new player onboarding, and a historian intern could help Bungie’s narrative team create a more sensible intro to the universe, for example.

Of course, since Bungie is now in the process of actually hiring for the aforementioned position, the effects of this process are unlikely to be felt anytime soon.Destiny 2’s Season 19 narrativeis already bound to set the stage for next year’s Lightfall DLC, for one, and chances are that the next year ofDestinycontent is already planned well in advance, to boot.

Players looking toprepare forDestiny 2’s Lightfall DLCneedn’t worry too much, though, even if they’ve only just started playing the game. Almost all the game’s relevant story beats are available in some form at this time, and it’s certainly possible - though not easy - to catch up with all the lore if there’s enough motivation. In fact, Season 19 is coming out on December 6, adding even more content to the gargantuan MMOFPS title.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
