Summary
One ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s most popular and powerful shotguns, the Lockwood 300, has been nerfed as part of a new October 11 patch.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is enjoying its sixth and final season which has brought new maps, weapons, and more to the game, including big, Halloween-themed crossovers withSpawn,Diablo, andDoom.
Since the beginning ofModern Warfare 2’s sixth season there has been some public outcry among fans over just how powerful the Lockwood 300 shotgun has become. The Lockwood, aModern Warfare 2launch weapon, is a classic double-barreled shotgun which is unlocked at level 36. It’s best used at close range but is also handy in mid-range engagements. The shotgun saw signigicant buffs in both itsModern Warfare 2andWarzoneiterations at the start of Season 6, leading to it becoming one of the most powerful and devastating weapons in the game this season.

Now, as part of a new patch released on October 11, the Lockwood 300 has been partly nerfed. Specifically, the damage range while using the weapon’sMaelstrom Dual Trigger attachment, which fires both shells at once, has been decreased at both close and mid range. It’s important to note that the damage buff itself from the beginning of Season 6 is still intact.
Fans have been speculating that the Lockwood buff was done to draw attention toward theDoomcrossover bundle which features a Lockwood 300 blueprint in the style ofDoom’s classic Super Shotgun. Interestingly, thisDoomblueprint has the Maelstrom Dual Trigger attachment already built into it, so fans using the Lockwood Super Shotgun will now find less success at mid range. Other changes in the October 11 patch include damage buffs to the Kastov 545, Kastov 74u, and Minibak, and nerfs to the M13B, TR-76 Geist, ISO 9mm, and Lachmann Shroud. Additionally, the controversial Groot-like Gaia operator skin that’s part of the new battle pass has been given new VFX to make it more visible on the battlefield, as players have been complaining about it blending into environments.
With allModern Warfare 2weapons carrying over toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3next month, it’ll be interesting to see if the Lockwood 300 remains one of the most powerful weapons among all the new armaments this third installment of theModern Warfarereboot trilogy will bring to the table. In the meantime, time will tell whether Infinity Ward will fully walk back the Lockwood’s damage buff from the beginning of Season 6 and if it’ll survive the jump toModern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
