Relatively little has been officially announced regardingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3at this point in time. Over the past two weeks, Activision has confirmed that the next release in theCall of Dutyseries will beCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3and that itwill feature the notorious villain Makarov. For more information, an official reveal event is scheduled to begin on August 17 inCall of Duty: Warzone. Otherwise, Activision has found some curious ways of teasing information without confirming anything.

One way Activision isteasing news fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is via a mysterious phone number. The number is briefly shown and when called tellsCall of Dutyfans to text the number instead. After agreeing to receive texts,Call of Dutyfans receive a series of messages teasingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3unprompted. However, fans have discovered the number will respond to certain specific keywords, too. One of those keywords is confirmed to be “Zombies.”
Texting “Zombies” to theCall of Dutyphone number will lead to an audio file being sent in return. The audio file’s name is gibberish, but the audio itself will be recognizable to all Zombies mode players. The audio file contains the sound of a zombie’s guttural growl and scream.
The audio file is by no means an official confirmation thatZombies is returning forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It’s possible that it’s just a fun response and an Easter egg. However, since all other discovered text prompts for theModern Warfare 3phone number are directly related to the new game, it seems likely the Zombies tease is related, too. Activision should know better than to tease fans about Zombies mode if it isn’t in the game.
Other prompts that have led to responses from the phone number include “Red Dot,” which seems to confirm thereturn of the classicCall of Dutymini-mapwith red dots showing unsuppressed gunfire, and map names, which include all 16 of the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2maps. More details onCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3are expected tomorrow, and in the days and weeks to come. Zombies mode will hopefully be one of those upcoming announcements.
