Activision Blizzard has released the patch notes for aCall of Duty: Warzone 2update that have left some players confused by a bizarre armor-piercing ammo change. As a live-service battle royale title,Call of Duty: Warzone 2will continue to be updated and each patch may receive patch notes too, but some fans are questioning what this armor-piercing ammo change even means.
Reddit user Kefefs is among manyCall of Duty: Warzone 2fans that are questioning the armor-piercing ammo change that reduces its multiplier against armored opponents, which could drastically alter how gunfights play out. Similar toCall of Duty: Warzone,Warzone 2features armor platesthat players can equip to increase their resistance to enemy fire and as a result, there are also armor-piercing rounds that can effectively counter armored enemies by bypassing this stat increase. Until a recent update, the armor-piercing ammo would fittingly do more damage to players wearing armor than to other players, but the change may invalidate the ammunition type until a future patch.

Kefefs’s Reddit post is a simple screenshot of theCall of Duty: Warzone 2patch notes that details attachment info, with armor-piercing rounds featured at the top, with a single bullet point that states, “removed damage against armored opponents.” Pointing to the peculiarity of the notes, Kefefs called “GG” on Activision Blizzard for potentially causing a balance problem with the ammo type with the recent change. Although popularCall of Duty: Warzone 2players like Dr Disrespecthave offered a number of solutions to some problems in the battle royale, few people if any were calling on this adjustment to armor-piercing rounds.
Although it’s currently unclear whyCall of Duty: Warzone 2developersmade this adjustment to armor-piercing rounds, it may have been causing more damage than originally intended against armored enemies.Call of Duty: Warzone 2players have noticed an inconsistent time to kill since the game launch which may be an issue associated with the ammo type, and they nerfed it to balance the damage effectively or invalidated it as they tweak things behind the scenes. While there are such nuances to developing a battle royale game, lots ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2fans are comparing the change to some seen duringInfinite Warfarein 2017.
The top response to Kefefs’s patch notes post dismissed armor-piercing rounds as normal ammo as one player noted that the adjustment also impactedCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s DMZ modewhich may be where the ammo type was seeing its biggest problems. Though some fans were critical of Raven Software developers because of the ammo change, others have celebrated that they may not get downed as quickly as before the update.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
