While some fans are hoping to see a map ravaged by nuclear radiation, others are thinking that a much simpler explanation might be in order.

On Reddit, Twitter, and several other social media sites, fans are constantlydiscussing possible futures forWarzone.Theories continue to fly around mixed with leaks and rumors that craft several possible answers to the game’s future. While only so much can be done before the battle royale becomes an entirely new title, there are several minor changes that developers could make that would hold true to theWarzonespirit. With Treyarch and Raven Software moving into this new world together, fans are likely to be on one exciting ride no matter the result.
Nuclear Fallout
One fan theory that seems to reoccur with every season is the strange hope for nuclear devastation. From thenuclear warhead found during theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warreveal puzzlesto the constant references in other varying Easter Eggs, some fans now have a preset expectation, although some fans seem to not agree on having a nuclear blast destroy the map of Verdansk.
One interesting evolution that could occur is the ruined buildings, massive crater, andapocalyptic feel that a nuclear warhead would provide to Verdansk. Although there would be concern over radiation, overall the new map aesthetic would be an epic reimagining of the original map. The flat earth, ruined buildings, and shadowed remains of the populations would present a haunting environment for players to slaughter each other in, and that’s excites as many as those who oppose it.
There is a morbid tone to this expectation that makes many fans push away from a nuclear map. For many fans, the idea of a large open field would be counter-intuitive to thetype of gameplay thatWarzoneprospers on. Without the rapid city-scapes and close-knit final zones, the game would lose some of its appeals, and a nuclear blast would destroy the entire city, and although crashing a large hold in the center of the map worked forFortnite,many fans believe thatWarzoneshould take a different path.

Change of Game, Change of Season
Thechange toWarzonecould also be very subtle. Although there is a certain appeal to massive wide-scale changed, some fans believe the game might have slightly new additions to the core experience rather than world-ending differences. One thing that Treyarch has done in the past withCall of Duty: Black Ops 4Blackout mode is simply change the season. The trees, farms, and overall scenery shifted only slightly giving the experience of fall rather than the middle of summer, and a simple change like this could have a massive impact on the map of Verdansk without destroying anything in the process.
Rumors of asubway system and underground map networks inWarzonewould be another great example of a small change. Rather than making an entirely new map, players would simply go below the map and explore a new layer. Interesting evolutions could include flooding, collapsing tunnels, and even simply running a train through the network. Just because the game is changing hands does not mean it has to go through massive changes, as small tweaks can speak in great volumes to the community and have amazing and unintended side effects in the process.
Subtle effects can speak to great volumes about the quality and careful designs hidden in massive maps like Verdansk. As fans explore the subtle changes, they have a higher chance of noticing more focused and grand-scale efforts that the developers may have implemented. Although change is no doubt coming, it does not always have to be the biggest bomb in the store to make a difference.
Brand New Map
One simple yet still massive solution toWarzone’snext phase would be simply changing locations, and a brand new map could be the start to a brand new operation involving theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warmain storyline. Similar to howModern Warfare’splot revolved around poison gas and terrorism, which matched Verdansk’s operational story,Cold Warcould revolve around anti-Russian insurgency.
There are tons of countries to choose from for an operation like this, including Urzikstan from previous leaks. While theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwebsitedid hold a slightly edited map of Verdansk, there is still a chance that the war could move the entire operation elsewhere.
Still, there is a charm to staying in one place. Evolving the map, nuking it, or even shifting the focus of the game to a new operation would all be fine as long as it still remainedWarzone.The main concern amongtheCall of Dutycommunityis the fear thatWarzonemight evolve into something far from what it is. There are several intrinsic reasons that fans chooseWarzoneover Blackout or other battle royales, and fans are hoping that the evolution of the game will not change the core value that fans are loyal too.
There are many unknowns in bothCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarandWarzone’sfutures. Fans will continue to hypothesize and theorize possible changes in theWarzoneformula but until official information is provided most players are shooting in the dark.
