Ryuen’s Tries To Draw Out Class D’s Mastermind

Episode 10 began on a relatively wholesome note with ‘Group Ayanokoji’ reminiscing on Class D’s success in the Paper Shuffle exam. Surprisingly, for the first time in the history of Class D, no one failed the Paper Shuffle exam. However, this victory also drew enemies like Class C and their leader, Ryuen, since Class D’s success in thePaper Shuffle examwas slightly above that of Class C. This development, alongside others, led Ryuen to take drastic actions to spook Class D members. However, this move was also anticipated by Ayanokoji.

In Group Ayanokoji’s meeting, Kiyotaka noticed he was being watched by someone. To discover the identity of the stalker, Ayanokoji used Karuizawa as his spy tool. Surprisingly, the person spying on Ayanokoji turned out to be a member of Class A. This could mean that Class A is starting to catch up to the true mastermind behind Class D’s success. Either way, this unforeseen developmentdid not make Ryuen any less of a threat. He continued prodding Class D members, including the volatile Ken Sudo. But shockingly, none of them took Ryuen’s bait.

In the midst of this new problem, Horikita discussed with Ayanokoji the true intent behind Ryuen’s provocations – to draw out the brain behind Class D’s recent success. However, even after hearing, this appeared nonchalant despite the severity of the situation. After seeing Ayanokoji’s reaction, Horikita decided to resolve the issue through her own means. She then asked Ayanokoji if he’ll still help Class D in reaching Class A. However, Ayanokoji only gave his usual reply, “As long as it’s necessary.” Horikita seemed satisfied with this answer, but is she really aware of what it truly meant?

Who Is Ayanokoji?

Episode 10 revealed a bit of Ayanokoji’s past using the appearance of his father. While in the library per Horikita’s request, Ayanokoji encountered Chabashira, who announced to him that he had a visitor. This visitor turned out to benone other than Kiyotaka’s father, Mr. Ayanokoji. As expected, the visit was not cheerful, judging from Kiyotaka’s personality. This development also revealed that Ayanokoji escaped from his father’s reach by enrolling inTokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School.

In the discussion between the Ayanokojis, the main reason behind Ayanokoji joining the school was finally revealed. According to Kiyotaka, he wanted to discover the world his father often shunned for himself. Regardless of Kiyotaka’s reason, his father still tried pushing him to withdraw from school and return with him. One evident occurrence from the conversation is the not-so-familial relationship between the Ayanokojis. This leads to the question: What was Kiyotaka’s childhood like? Interestingly, this was partially revealed in the episode.

Apparently, Kiyotaka was ‘educated’ by his father through an academy-likeenvironment called the “White Room,” which hasn’t fully been revealed in the anime yet. From the statements made by Kiyotaka’s father, Kiyotaka wasn’t the only one that went through the White Room. However, he was the most successful candidate that emerged from it, one of the reasons Mr. Ayanokoji referred to his son as “my most prized possession.” Luckily, before Kiyotaka’s father could find a way to force his son to withdraw, the chairman, Mr. Sakanayagi, intervened.

One of the hallmarks ofTokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High Schoolis student independence, which means that students are responsible for most of their actions. For this reason, Ayanokoji could not leave the school without his agreement. Surprisingly, Ayanokoji’s father decided to leave after seeing the chairman won’t budge on permitting Ayanokoji’s forced withdrawal.

Ayanokoji Drops Out Of The Mission To Help Class D Reach Class A

After the meeting with his father, Ayanokoji discovered that Chabashira lied to him to use his intellect to move Class D to Class A. While this deception worked, Ayanokoji, after discoveringChabashira’s true intentionsand the fact that her threats were mere bluffs, decided to abandon Class D and stick to his old solitary interest. This became more evident after he called off his deal with Karuizawa to help and protect her.

What this development means for Class D is quite clear, as Ayanokoji was the mastermind behind their recent success. Most likely, if Ayanokoji continues with his current decision to abstain from academic rivalry, Class D rising to the ranks of Class A will be next to impossible. In the next episode of Classroom of the Elite, Horikita will soon receive the grim news from Ayanokoji. However, how she will take it is definitely a must-see event in the next episode.
