Cobra Kaiis suiting up to prepare for the show’s fourth season premiere this New Year’s Day, but that doesn’t mean its makers and stars were resting up until now, as it’s now been confirmed Netflix’sKarate Kidspinoff just wrapped filming for season five.
Ironically,Cobra Kaifirst moved from YouTube to Netflix in 2020 due to the former’s lack of interest in renewing the series for a fourth season that the latter streaming giant was more than happy to finance. The result has been nothing short of outstanding as, despite not matchingthe likes ofArcaneandSquid Game,Cobra Kaihas still gone on to become one of Netflix’s most streamed pieces of content, especially in the holiday it’s been slotted into.

However, with official confirmation from its creators Jon Hurwitz and Josh Heald thatCobra Kaiseason five has finished shooting, that may force the series to premiere earlier in 2022. The news came on December 19 via a tweet from Hurwitz showing him and Heald aboard a plane getting ready to leave Atlanta,where most ofCobra Kaiis filmed. In the image, both men are looking quite proud of how much bigger the show’s grown in just over a year.
It’s also worth noting that Heald has said in recent interviews that season five was not written asCobra Kai’s finale, which means season six might become a thing. Plus, there’s the rumored spinoffs that could be set inKarate Kid’s world. After all, season four will see Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso join their dojo’s forces to battle against the terrible influence John Kreese is having on the valley’s youth.
Of course, the next big thing forCobra Kaiis bringing back Terry Silveras the new mentor for the eponymous dojo, a plot twist that could see Daniel remember the darker side to him that his other former teacher awakened. Nevertheless, it’s not just the grown ups who are seeing their lives getting turned upside down, as the rivalry and love affairs between Miguel, Sam, Robby, and Tory also pack tons of complications, with Robby and Johnny’s relationship eventually having to be addressed further.
AfterThe Witcher’s second season premiere this past weekend,Cobra Kairepresents yet another of Netflix’s big offerings, though it’s probably safe to say season four will continue to fare better than the now canceledCowboy Bebopadaptation did last month. After all, Cobra Kai never really dies.
