According to the teaser site,Enigma Archives: Rain Codewill deliver a “dark fantasy mystery” experience to gamers, meaning that it’s likely to be an urban fantasy game. TheDanganronpaseries has been compared and contrasted toPersonain the past, so it could be interesting to see the creative team behind Danganronpa tackle a story and setting evocative ofPersona. Whatever the case, the key visuals and a few screenshots seem to suggest that mazes, spooky ghosts, pink blood, and long, ominous dark cloaks will be involved.
Reportedly,Danganronpacreator and scenario director Kazutaka Kodaka will be writing the story ofEnigma Archives: Rain Code, Masafumi Takada will be composing the soundtrack, and Rui Komatsuzaki will be designing the characters. Relatively little is known about the protagonists, but it seems that the hero is a small boy with pink hair worn in the ‘idiot hair’ style common toall threeDanganronpagames' protagonists.

The heroine, meanwhile, is a tall girl with even pinker hair, an elaborate gothic dress, and horns. She wears her long, wavy tresses in a distinctive coiling style that resembles twin horns of plenty. Fans ofDanganronpamight find some visual similarities between her andthe infamous Junko Enoshima, though it remains to be seen what role she will play.
One of the screenshots appears to show the protagonist standing over a body, presumably to investigate. It’s unclear whether or notEnigma Archives: Rain Codewill be incorporatingDanganronpa’s iconic trials systemor using more standard fantasy gameplay mechanics. Whatever the case, the screenshots also draw attention to an elaborate city that appears to combine a steampunk aesthetic with bright neon lights.

Both theDanganronpaandPersonagames take place in a relatively normal world that collides with something terrifying, but whilePersonasoon draws in the supernatural,Danganronparemains at least theoretically rooted in reality. Which seriesEnigma Archives: Rain Codewill follow in the footsteps of remains to be seen.
Enigma Archives: Rain Codeis now in production.
