While the addition of weapon crafting toDestiny 2has been a welcome one among the game’s community over the last year, it has taken away some of the chase for adept raid weapons for some players which Bungie hopes to bring back inLightfall. The appeal of endgame activities such as master difficulty raids has been the gear available, namely adept weapons capable of rolling with multiple perks and the ability to use adept weapons mods to improve overall performance. It appears Bungie will lean into this notion with some fresh changes, taken from weapon crafting, at the release ofLightfalland following seasonsto get players back into master raids.

Weapon crafting was introduced intoDestiny 2with the release of the last major expansion,The Witch Queen, after years of demand from the game’s community. Players would need to unlock weapon patterns for craftable weapons by completing Deepsight objectives, which would also provide the various materials needed to craft the weapon at the Relic located in Mars' Enclave social space. The last year has seen Bungie streamline the process significantly, reducing the number of currencies and increasing Deepsight weapon drop rates, while more are set to come inLightfallto make crafting more accessible.

Bungie is making further changes to Destiny 2’s Deepsight attunement objectives and weapon crafting resources in Lightfall.

As for adept raid weapons, Bungie won’t be making these craftable but will be pulling from the upgrade process for crafted weapons to inject them with some fresh life. The studio said in its latestLightfallpreview that starting with the expansion and Season 20, it will begin allowing players to enhance adept raid weapons, allowing them to be leveled up, unlock a memento socket, and gain access to enhanced perks and traits. However, it will be limited to only the adept weapons earned from the master difficulty version ofLightfall’s new raidand won’t be added to other raids due to “technical limitations” at this current time.

Players will be able to enhance weapons using a combination of standard currencies andSpoils of Conquestto begin the leveling process, with three enhancement tiers available. The first tier will replace the weapon’s existing Masterwork in exchange for a memento slot and weapon level, the latter of which will eventually unlock the weapon’s full suite of barrel and magazine perks. Tier two unlocks at level 11 and three at level 17 and will allow players to enhance the perks in the third and fourth columns, respectively.

Bungie’s refresh to adept raid weapons joins a seemingly growing list of changes and additions toDestiny 2the release ofLightfallwill bring with it, beyond the new activities and Strand subclass. The studio has made it clear it a major goal of the expansion and subsequent seasons is to improve the player experience on a scale similar to the release ofThe Taken KingandForsakenexpansions, both of which brought some of the most sweeping changes toDestinyandDestiny 2, respectively. It remains to be seen how this will take shape in the game, but it does set the stage for what could be one of the most interesting years inDestiny 2’s lifecycle.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
