Many aspects ofDestiny 2are due for some adjustments when its next season rolls out in August, and Bungie has confirmed that it will be revisiting Strand’s Tangle mechanics with the intention of reducing Tangle cooldown times.Destiny 2is an ever-changing game, and while the current Season of the Deep is far from over, the developers have already begun publicly discussing many of the sandbox tweaks they plan on making in August with regard to weapons, abilities, and more.
Strand itselfrepresents the latest ofDestiny 2’s subclasses, allowing Guardians to once again wield the Darkness and use it to manipulate the very strings that bind the universe together. Along with a handy grapple mechanic that affords players much greater mobility both in and out of combat, Strand also offers a whole range of new ways to engage foes. Tangles are an integral part of Strand and can be manifested by any type of Guardian simply by destroying enemies with Strand abilities. These useful orbs can be picked up and thrown to trigger explosions, and even provide free grapple points which help players stay on the move without spending their grenade cooldown.

Strand as a whole has generally been pretty solid in terms of gameplay since itbecame available withDestiny 2: Lightfall, but the developers have continually refined it further through various adjustments. In a section of this week’s TWID post that answers many of the community’s most frequently asked questions relating to the game’s sandbox, Bungie revealed that it currently has plans to reduce the Tangle cooldown from 15 seconds to 12 in Season 22. The motivation for this change largely lies in the reliance on Tangles for many Strand builds, as the ability for teammates to pick up a player’s Tangles often creates complications for players struggling with their cooldowns.
It appears that Strand’s gameplay flow still isn’t quite perfect, but Bungie is clearly willing to continue tweaking Strand’s abilities to this end. When asked what the intent is for the Tangle cooldown mechanic, Bungie clarified that the system is in place to effectively put a limit on the chaos that Strand can unleash on the battlefield. Withabilities playing a core role inDestiny 2, fans would no doubt formulate optimal methods of Tangle creation through their Guardian’s builds if there was no limit to how many could be created at a time.
Strand remains a popular choice of subclass among the game’scommunity in spite of its limitations, thoughDestiny 2’s newest subclass certainly hasn’t been free from bugs- especially since the launch of the latest season. The plethora of bugs surrounding Strand and indeed many unrelated aspects of the game might well be the biggest problem for the subclass, but fans can only hope that ongoing hotfixes continue to address these issues as they arise.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
