Summary
Dragon BallSuperChapter 101 has finally been released, and Goku is curious about Gohan and his new beast form. While there are plenty of things to unpack from this chapter, a potential Goku versus Gohan brawl is what fans have truly been craving.
With this new chapter,Dragon Ball Superstarts the Black Frieza arc. With that, the series launches itself into uncharted territory as this is the first time it delves into what happens after the events ofDragon Ball Z. It appears that the series is wasting no time getting into the thick of it either, as Goku has already decided to check up on his son after his fight with Cell Max.
What Happened in This Chapter?
The chapter begins with Carmine from the Red Ribbon persuading Goten and Trunks to take down a “powerful evil enemy” after he sees them beat some goons in the street. As they get near their destination, they become nervous. They realize it’s near Gohan’s place. They have been sneaking out of school to be superheroes, so they’re scared they might get in trouble.
Meanwhile,Vegeta is sparring with Broly on Beerus' planet. Vegeta displays his dominance as a fighter over Broly, getting behind him and goading him to attempt to get him angry. Goku worries that Broly might lose his composure, but Whis says that Broly has changed. Broly doesn’t snap, fighting Vegeta normally. Vegeta admonishes Broly, telling him that rage is how Saiyans become powerful and that he needs to control his anger rather than subdue it.
The chapter then shifts focus to Goku, Whis, and Broly talking about the Z fighters defeating Cell Max on Earth and how Bulma said that Gohan may have rivaled Goku and Vegeta during the fight.Then they get to talking about Black Frieza, and Beerus says that there will always be someone more powerful. Beerus also says that if Goku can surpass him one day, he will recommend him to be the next god of destruction, to which Goku replies that he isn’t interested.
On Earth, Gohan notices Carmine and number 15 and recognizes them as Pan’s kidnappers, so he immediately snaps into his beast form.Goku and Vegeta immediately notice the massive ki spikeas they’re eating. They realize that it’s Gohan’s energy, and Vegeta is shocked. Goku’s instant transmissions to the top of the Red Ribbon car that Goten and Trunks came in on with Carmine and 15, greeting his sons and Trunks to end the chapter.
Goku vs. Gohan?
Everyone knows Goku’s passion in life is to put himself up against the strongest warriors. Needless to say, his sons are no exception, especially Gohan. While he has always respected Gohan’s path in life, he and Vegeta have always acknowledged that his potential surpasses theirs. It can also be presumed that he has always wantedhis son to surpass him in strengthso that he could get better alongside him.
Goku had no reason to go to Earth outside of seeing what Gohan’s new power was all about. It is extremely likely, knowing Goku, that he will want to spar with his son to see how powerful he has become in the time he has been gone. They have already fought once to gauge power levels, so there’s no reason why they wouldn’t do it again. The previous circumstances weredifferent because of the Tournament of Powerand the fact that Gohan was the challenger instead of the other way around, but regardless, Goku will want to see Gohan’s strength in action. Goku may also want to gauge his son’s strength just in case they need his help to fight Black Frieza.
A fight between a full-power Goku and Gohan would be spectacular. It will give fans a chance to see how powerful Beast Gohan is, which is something the fan base has been wanting to know for a while now.
