Summary
AnElden Ringplayer has found a symbol on the game’s map which could possibly be a hidden code, adding to the never-ending list of mysteries surrounding the franchise. What’s more notable is the fact that the player found the same symbol in another location inElden Ring, which further suggests that it could have a much larger significance.
The release ofElden Ring’s Shadow of the ErdtreeDLC is barely a few weeks away, and the hype around it has ramped up significantly lately. The fact thatFromSoftware revealed thatShadow of the ErdtreeDLC will be the first and last expansionthe game will ever receive has made it even more important to the fan base. Several players have been starting new playthroughs to prepare for the release, with many fine-tuning their builds to get their characters well-equipped for the Land of Shadow. As they progress through the game again, players might have another intriguing mystery to solve.

In a new post on the Elden Ring subreddit, user Hyrulehero101 highlights an interesting detail they spotted on the game’s map. In one of the bodies of water on themap near Limgrave, there are a few symbols, some of which also appear to be illegible since they are faded. However, one of them is quite prominent, and by the looks of it, it does seem like a hint toward something.
Elden Ring’s Map Symbol Sparks Fresh Debate in The Community
While many would consider the marks to be random gibberish on the map, it should be noted that this symbol can be found in another place. If players head to the Multiplayer menu ofElden Ringand use the Group Password Setting option, they will find the symbol, along with four others on the menu. The symbol does start to make much more sense here since it is basically equivalent to tally marks. Instead of the number five having a diagonal cut, it’s the number four that has it, with number five again looking similar to the traditional variant.
Fans on the subreddit are quite divided on this revelation, with many believing that this is simply leftover text from earlier versions of the map. However, the original poster seems to have a different thought process. They highlight that it could be possible that the symbol is alluding to the use of Group Passwords to reveal a hidden secret. For instance, it is emphasized that the symbol is right near Limgrave’s marker, and it is for the number 5. Considering that Group Passwords can only be a maximum of eight characters and Limgrave fits exactly in that, it could be possible that there are four other passwords like this that fit in the remaining slots to reveal a secret. While the theory is fascinating and plausible, it remains to be seen whether this is a proper mystery to solve like otherElden Ringsecrets.
