Fae Farmis a cozy RPG where players arrive in the magical land of Azoria ready to take ownership of a free home and begin their relaxing farm life. However, upon arrival, the Mayor shares that the land is under attack from multiple mysterious occurrences like whirlpools surrounding the island, thorns appearing overnight across the village, and more. To help, players will need the eight tools gifted to them to gather, grow, and craft materials to make this the peaceful paradise that was expected. As the sources of these disturbances are uncovered, it will take stronger tools to deal with them.

This list is based on the tools that will allow the storyline to progress, and doesn’t take into account the hobbies within the game that people may enjoy. For those looking for where to put their Florins to get further into theFae Farmstory, here are the best tools to upgrade first.

Pickax

As each new area of the map is uncovered, the player’s main is to get through 25 floors of the next dungeon and work with the creature at the end to fix the problem. With each dungeon comes different, stronger minerals to mine. Players can make things easier on themselves by crafting seals to keep the floors open, enabling teleportation to that floor.

The minerals found in the dungeons are required to create these seals, and without upgrading the pickax, it may not be strong enough to break them. Upgrading the tool will also save time and energy when it comes to breaking them down. Plus, to continue upgrading tools, players will need tosmelt the ore into ingots. Ores are also needed to craft items for the player’s home and sometimes for the creatures at the end of the dungeon. Players can’t get anywhere with any tools if the right bars aren’t crafted.

Enemies in dungeons will occasionally drop ores when defeated, but typically in small numbers. Since players tend to need a lot of ore, this isn’t an ideal alternative to gathering them. To make progress inFae Farm, players should prioritize upgrading the Pickax.

Axe

Lumber is also often necessary to complete dungeons and craft items. The Lumber Station will also be needed for this, but players will need to gather the upgraded wood from the new area to put it into the Lumber Station. Similar to the ores in the mines, the trees in each area increase in strength, and players willrequire an upgraded axeto chop them down. Logs are another random drop from mine enemies as well, but chopping the trees is much more time-efficient.

Shovel

While the different types of earth material aren’t needed as much as ores and wood, they are still typically key to completing the dungeons. With the Shovel, players can collect soil, sand, clay, ash, and other materials. These can occasionally be picked up by battling enemies in the dungeon as well. They aren’t as essential as the others unless a player is farming heavily, as they’re also needed tomake specific garden beds.

Sickle

For much of the early game, this isn’t as important as the other tools. Once the Fae Realm is unlocked, the Sickle becomes more important as the sickle upgrade is required to gather Sporeweed andother foraged greens. However, in the early hours ofFae Farm, it’s easy to get through without an upgraded sickle. Its main use at this point is to gather plant fibers to feed the chickoos and cottontails in the coop, as well as some optional crafting.

Fishing Rod

The last tool of importance is the Fishing Rod. While an upgrade won’t be necessary early game for catching specific fish, it will make the catching process quicker. There is a fish request in the early dungeon that is required to move the story forward, so knowinghow to catch fish is essential, but this can be done without an upgraded rod at this point.

Towards the end of the game, an advanced rod is required for a story item, meaning players need to have a specific fishing level to upgrade the rod. It’s not something to totally ignore, but it doesn’t need to be a main focus early in the game.

Other Tools

The other tools are either not as important to the main story, or are automatically upgraded. These include thewatering can, critter net, and staff. When potions become a point of necessity in the game, upgrading the critter net will be the next step tocatching critters in new areasto place in the conservatories, but this isn’t a problem found early in the game. The upgraded watering can holds more water and waters a bigger area as it’s upgraded, which is more convenient but is not essential for gameplay. The staff is automatically upgraded through the story, and is not something players can purchase or complete early.
