Throughout the world ofFallout 4, players will encounter a wide variety of quests and characters, including those of special NPCs who canserve as companions. Each companion has their own unique quests for the player, as well as an overall affinity rating that can be improved by performing actions these characters will view positively.
When a certain affinity score with a given companion has been reached, players will typically unlock a special quest, which (upon completion) grants aspecial companion perkunique to that particular character. ForNick Valentine, the synth robot detective of Diamond City, his quest is “Long Time Coming.” The quest will become available to players once they have both killed Conrad Kellog and achieved an affinity rating of at least 750 with Nick as a companion. The quest involves tracking down an old nemesis of Valentine’s who was responsible for killing the detective’s pre-war lover, Jennifer Lands.
Where To Find The Eddie Winter Holotapes
There are 10 total Holotapes to find for Nick in this quest. Their locations are detailed below.
Eddie Winter Holotape 0 Location
Located in Charlestown and just to thenorth of Bunker Hill, this holotape can be found inside theBADTFL Regional Office. The building isfilled with Raidersand contains lots of valuable loot, including a Fat Man and Mini Nuke. The holotape can befound in the basementof the building on top of a filing cabinet near the locked terminal.
Eddie Winter Holotape 1 Location
This holotape is granted to players byNick Valentineat the start of the quest. This can only happen when the player has reached a high enough affinity with Nick and after the completion of the quest “Dangerous Minds,” in which players hunt down and kill Kellogg as part of the main story.
Eddie Winter Holotape 2 Location
The next holotape can be found in theMalden Center. The location can be found just to the southwest ofVault 75, near theMedford Memorial Hospital. On the second floor of the police station, the holotape is on top of a desk in the corner, next to a terminal.
Eddie Winter Holotape 3 Location
To find the next holotape, head toQuincy Police Stationin the wetlands to the southeast end of the map. The location is close to Quincy Ruins and the Poseidon Energy power plant. The tape itself is stored in a locker in a prison cell on the lower level.
Eddie Winter Holotape 4 Location
This holotape is found in the partially collapsed and submergedNatick Police Departmentonthe edge of Lake Cochituatein the east. The tape is hidden in one of the prison cells in the sunken lower levels of the building.
Eddie Winter Holotape 5 Location
The next holotape is located atNahant Sherriff’s departmenton the Nahant peninsula to the west of Revere Beach Station. Inside, players will find the tape on top of a small filing cabinet on thesecond floor, next to a caps stash and 10mm pistol.
Eddie Winter Holotape 6 Location
Holotape number 6 can be found in the collapsed and submergedEast Boston Police Stationnear theRobco Sales & Service Center. The building itself is abandoned, and the tape can be found on the second floor on a desk in the southeastern corner of the building.
Eddie Winter Holotape 7 Location
This holotape is located atSouth Boston Police Department, close to Gwinnet Brewery and Andrew Station in the southeastern district of the city. Players are likely to encounter either Raiders orGunners in the area, though the building itself is uninhabited. The holotape can be found in the office on the second floor.
Eddie Winter Holotape 8 Location
The next holotape can be found inPolice Precinct 8, close to theBoston Public Library and Trinity Plaza. The tape is inside a prison cell on top of a small table next to some Stimpak and Buffout medications.
Eddie Winter Holotape 9 Location
The final holotape is located at theCoast Guard Pierin the central area of the map, close to Westing Estate andVault 81. The area is likely to be inhabited withSuper Mutants, and the tape can be found on the second floor on top of an expert level safe.
How To Access Eddie Winter’s Bunker
Once all the holotapes have been recovered and handed to Nick Valentine, he will immediately proceed toEddie Winter’s location in Andrew Station. The area is heavily guarded by Raiders and turrets but will eventually lead to a cave with a door to Eddie’s bunker. Using the passcode assembled from the holotapes, players will be able tohack the terminaland unlock the door, leading to a confrontation with Winter.
Players can choose to kill Eddie or allow Nick to do so, but either way,he will become hostileat the conclusion of the dialogue and attack both the player and Valentine. Once Eddie is eliminated, players can retrieve the unique pistol,Eddie’s Peace,from his body — before following Valentine out of the bunker viaan underground speakeasypopulated with more Raiders and an Institute Courser.
Once this is complete, players are free to follow Nick out onto the street where he shows the spot his former lover was executed. This will complete the quest and grant players maximum affinity with Nick Valentine, as well as granting his companion perk:Close To Metal.
