The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Maskis one of the strangest games in theLegend of Zeldacannon. Being the direct sequel toOcarina of Timeand having a strange, dark tone set it apart. The fanbase for the game is sizable, placing it asone of the 5 bestsellingZeldagamesto date.
The story ofMajora’s Maskdoes not involve the Triforce, Ganon, or even Zelda herself, an oddity inZeldatitles. The story instead revolves around Link stopping the terrifying Moon from crashing and destroying all life. Masks, NPC stories, and themes of death and grief are present throughout the game, giving it its dark tone.

Majora’s Mask’s story, along with the fact that it isfilled with secrets, has made it many players' favoriteZeldatitle. There have been some creative tributes to the game, with one in particular standing out recently. YouTube channel Outcast Animation uploaded an animated music video aboutMajora’s Maskin the style of an anime intro. The video is short, but sweet, showing Link and the game’s antagonist Skull Kid paralleling each other, referencing different side stories and characters in the game, and showing Link using his various masks to defeat his opponents. The song is “Unravel,” which is the actual opening theme ofTokyo Ghoul, an anime that also has themes of death and scary monsters.
This is not the first time new art has come fromMajora’s Mask, either from an official or fan source. The game has inspired orchestral remixes of its soundtrack, which is notably spookier than otherZeldatitles. A few years ago, there was also alife size replica of the titular Majora’s Maskcreated and sold by First 4 Figurines. The figurine is not wearable like the actual mask, which might ultimately be for the best considering its horrifying nature.
One awesome tribute toMajora’s Maskis found in the Master Trials DLC forBreath of the Wild. An actual, wearable Majora’s Maskis hidden in a treasure chest out in the overworld, buried at some ruins. Sadly the mask does not bestow unfathomable dark power; it just lets players sneak by monsters easier.
If the fan created anime opening has inspired anyone to seek out the game, it is not insanely difficult to come by. The original N64 game was brought to the Wii U, and a remake is available for the 3DS. The game is abouthalfway on the list of longestZeldagames to complete, which puts it as a decent length for either a casual or completionist playthrough.
