However, players familiar withFinal Fantasy 14noticed a curious detail during the State of Play broadcast. Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of bothFinal Fantasy 14and16, was the presenter who spoke during the State of Play. Though he appeared only briefly before and after the footage, Yoshida was seen sporting the Unbreakable Bonds necklace, which features a shattered House Fortemps shield that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has played theHeavenswardexpansion inFinal Fantasy 14.
This shield was wielded by Haurchefant Greystone, one of themost popular characters inFinal Fantasy 14. Beloved by players across the globe, Haurchefant is a heroic knight who has brought smiles to faces since he first appeared inA Realm Reborn. Considering theHeavenswardexpansion is included in the free trial, newFinal Fantasy 14players can see why players love Haurchefant so much for themselves without spending a dime.
Unfortunately, the Unbreakable Bonds necklace was a limited-time collectible available only on the Japanese Square Enix store. The necklace retailed for around $220, but it sold out almost immediately. It was consistently out of stock, and has since been removed from the official store. That said, it is no surprise Yoshida himself got his hands on one.
Yoshida is quite fond of this particular piece of jewelry. He wore the same necklace at The Game Awards, during previous State of Play broadcasts, and in almost everyLive Letter from the Producer forFinal Fantasy 14. Yoshida is well-known for his impressive collection of rings, but it is clear Haurchefant and his necklace hold a special place in his heart.
As director and producer of both games,Final Fantasy 16is going to take some inspiration fromFinal Fantasy 14. Judging from the grim fantasy setting of Valisthea, the themes found inHeavenswardwill probably be similar to those found inFinal Fantasy 16. Many players hopeYoshida will do a crossover event between his twoFinal FantasygamesonceFinal Fantasy 16gets closer to launch.
