Nintendo and Intelligent Systems confirm that the upcomingFire Emblem Engagewill have amiibo support, which will grant bonuses to a player based on the figure used. This upcoming game is looking to include both new playable characters along with several past protagonists from the mainline games in the form of a mechanic known asEmblem Rings. These rings contain the spirits of these past heroes, who can support the newer cast with unique benefits that reflect the game they originate from, as well as imbue them with a power known as the Engage form.Many heroes have already been showcased in recent trailers, such as Marth, Byleth, Lyn, Corrin, and many more heroes being spiritual advisors to Alear. The premise of summoning characters from the past to help the current cast has beencompared toFire Emblem Heroesamong other spin-offs in the franchise.Fire Emblem Engagehowever is going to have another way of featuring past characters in a special way, via amiibo functionality.RELATED:Fire Emblem Engage Reveals Paid DLC Coming in Expansion PassA clip posted toFire Emblem Engage’s official Twitter account briefly showcases the return of the Amiibo Gazebo fromFire Emblem: Three Houses. In a rough translation of the tweet, items will be given whenever a player scans an Amiibo onto the Nintendo Switch’s NFC sensor. However, if players scan aFire Emblemcharacter amiibo, they will get a costume based on the character scanned, along with a song from the game that they hail from.
This is demonstrated with a menu that allows Alear to change costumes, where she can wear Lucina or Micaiah’s clothes. These costumes seem to be available in the main game itself and can be bought through a ticket system. A song can also be heard from a past game, specifically the dialogue theme fromthe firstFire Emblemgameon the NES.
It should be noted that there are only a certain amount ofFire Emblemamiibothat were ever produced, some only being based on their appearances inSuper Smash Bros., like Marth, Lucina, and Corrin. Others like Tiki, Alm, and Celica were produced during the release of aFire Emblemgame likeShadows of Valentiaor the firstWarriorsgame and are now exceedingly rare. There are also some of these past heroes, like Lyn, who never got an amiibo. This has caused some to speculate if there will be future amiibo figures being produced on these past characters, or if the currently released ones will get a reprint before or after the launch ofEngage.
