The debut of HBO’sGame of Thronesin 2011 took the world by storm. Fantasy lovers were able to celebrate the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s book series in more ways than one. Since its debut,Game of Thronesfans have been inspired by the characters so much that they’ve become a popular avenue for cosplayers, perhaps none more so than Daenerys Targaryen.
A Reddit user, “Lili_erlih,” revealed a photo of her cosplay of the infamous Daenerys Targaryenplayed by Emilia Clarke. The look she adorns looks identical to the one worn by Daenerys in the final season ofGame of Thrones.

In the photo, the cosplayer sports Dany’s signature platinum blonde hair, woven with a few intricate braids. The women ofGame of Thronesare known for the elaborate nature of their hairstyles, most of which include a series of tight braids at various angles. The coat the cosplayer wears matches the one Dany sported during her time in the North. She also appears to wear the silver three-headed dragon symbol of House Targaryen on her right shoulder, along with the silver chain that dangles from it.The final season ofGame of Throneswas subject to vast scrutiny and while many aspects ofGame of Thronesfelt as if they could no longer be celebrated by fans, the costuming department is certainly not one of those things. Unfortunately, the detail of the garments worn by people like Daenerys took a backseat to more pressing concerns.
Thefinal season ofGame of Thronesfeatured Daenerys in a number of compromising positions, including a rather twisted relationship with Jon Snow. After years of speculation, fans discovered that their hopes for Jon Snow being a descendant of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen were fruitful. It confirmed that Jon Snow was the rightful heir of the Iron Throne. What fans may not have counted on (or at least enjoyed) was his relationship with Dany, which put them in an uncomfortable scenario that mirrored Jaime and Cersei’s relationship.
While the wardrobe ofGame of Throneshas always been admired for its high level of intricacy, cosplayers take this admiration to a new level. No matter what look Daenerys cosplayers attempt to mimic, they are all incredibly difficult to master. This Winterfell look is certainly one of the harsher looks to accomplish because of all the layers involved. This look goes beyond a simple dress with its elaborate coat and accessories that adorn the outside of it.
With the upcomingHouse of the Dragonseries expected to premiere in 2022, there will be plenty of new looks for cosplayers to work with. It’s unclear if Daenerys will make an appearance in the series considering it is set long before she was born, but in the realm ofGame of Thrones,nothing can be ruled out.
