Genshin Impactoffers its players a vast map, full of treasures, characters, and narratives, to freely explore. That said, adventurers hoping to upgrade their weapons mid-journey may find their swords and clubs hitting a level-cap that can only be removed by collecting weapon Ascension Materials. Here’s how to get them.

So for those looking to continue upgrading their equipment with Ascension Materials, this article has been updated to help players find what they need. Changes to this article include more pictures, and some updated information on finding these coveted materials as well as reward days and locations at both of the Domains of Forgery. Maps have also been added to help players find their way to these instances.
What Are Ascension Materials in Genshin Impact?
Weapon Ascension Materials allow a player to “ascend” max level weapons (and characters) inGenshin Impact. This feat extends the item or character’s upper level limit, and allows the item or character to continue leveling up. Needless to say, the process of ascension isn’t a simple one.

Technically speaking, ascension is simple in that players need only enter the weapon or character’s enhancement menu, and select the Ascension option. Doing so allows thebestGenshin Impactweaponsto become even better. The difficult part islocating and gathering the weapon’s (or character’s) necessary Ascension Materials. Whereas character Ascension Materials are generally found after defeating particular enemies, weapon Ascension Materials can only be found in Domains of Forgery.
Domains of Forgery in Genshin Impact
Domains of Forgery are a kind of Abyssal Domain inGenshin Impact, which basically means they’re a sort of dungeon or instance. There are currently only two Domains of Forgery in the game,Cecilia Gardenand theHidden Palace of Lianshan Formula. They are both accessible once a player reaches Adventure Rank 16.
These two Domains of Forgery are the only way to consistently acquire weapon Ascension Materials, and they operate on a daily rotation.
Depending on the day of the week, Cecilia Garden and the Hidden Palace will allow players to enter a varying Domain of Forgery (each featuring unique rewards.) Once inside the domains, the goal is generally the same: players will have to defeat a set of enemies whilesurviving some sort of additional challenge, depending on the level of the domain.
While there aremany Domains inGenshin Impact, there are only two Forgery Domains. So players will have to do one of the two twice to fulfill the Clear 3 Domains of Forgery quest. This shouldn’t be a problem, however, since players will want to gather as many of these Ascension Materials for themselves as they can.

How to Unlock Additional Levels and Rewards
Players unlock additional levels of each domain byreaching new Adventure Ranks(AR 16, 21, 30, and 40, for Levels I, II, III, and IV, respectively.) The level and number of enemies in each domain will rise along with the domain’s level, as will the intricacy of the “ley line disorder.” Ley Line Disorders are basicallyGenshin Impact’s version of a stage penalty, and they often deal passive damage to players, or apply status effects at inopportune moments.
A player who takes on a Level I Domain of Forgery would be facing fewer (and weaker) enemies and obstacles than someone who challenges a Level III Domain of Forgery. Furthermore, if a player entersGenshin ImpactCeciliaGarden on Monday, for example, they’ll face a different Domain of Forgery, and set of rewards, than someone entering the garden on Tuesday.
Players should be 100% sure they find theperfectly rareGenshin Impactweapon to upgrade.This is because they’ll need tocomplete the correct Domain of Forgery several timeson the correct day of the week to successfully gather just one set of weapon Ascension Materials.
