It turns out some of the most interesting and varied enemies in video games exist in one’s own backyard. These creepy crawlies usually don’t bother most people, but inGrounded, they make miniature survival way too difficult. In this hybrid RPGsurvival gamewhere players assume the role of microscopic kids trying to survive in a backyard, bugs are the worst.

There’s no shortage of spiders (though they’re technically neither bug nor insect) and other multi-legged, many-eyed crawlers out to ruin a playthrough inGrounded. Half of them are docile or neutral but the other half is way too hostile to feature as protagonists in a Pixar film about insects. For maximum self-preservation, it’s recommended to avoid theseGroundedbugs as much as possible.

10Orb Weaver

Orb Weavers are some of the most common and annoying threats that players will face inGrounded. It seems theyrespawn too frequentlyso it doesn’t really matter how many of them get exterminated. It also doesn’t help that they prowl a wide range of environments and areas in the Yard map.

Anything from small caves to flooded zones is as good a shelter as any to them. They do indicate their presence with the webs though fighting one can get tedious as they tend to call in their brood or a second Orb Weaver to help in the fight. Their attacks sometimes inflict poison but it’s an uncommon occurrence.

9Antlion

Fighting an Antlion inGroundedwould have been more manageable if not for their permanent state of home court advantage. Because these things usually exist only in the Sandbox biome or region in the Yard. Thus, this allows them to easily burrow and lay traps for the players.

They attack relentlessly and if the players so much as to try and run away, the Antlions will throw Black Ant corpses at their fleeing victim. It’s like they want players to fully commit to the fight in a nigh-inescapable death match.

8Mosquito

They’re as troublesome here as their real-life counterparts. Mosquitoes and their deadlier variants, the Tiger Mosquitoes can quickly become unpredictable opponents. They buzz around too much, encircling the players while attacking.

Running away won’t always work well since they’re fast and they tend to sit close by with other mosquitoes. Whittling down their health can be difficult too since they can heal with each attack. The best bet is to fight them near an area with a makeshift roof to avoid their jabs.

7Termite King

Regular ants are easy enough to defeat, but their Termite cousins are tougher nuts to crack. They have a king instead of a queen and he’s not really that imposing both physically and tactically. The Termite King does have a lot of health andplayers will need better toolsif they want to have a successful round of regicide.

All that health isn’t for nothing, as the Termite King will call in his whole kingdom if players attack him. This makes escape especially difficult since the whole tunnel where players will fight this monarch will be swarming with Termites.

6Black Ox Beetle

There are some non-boss insects inGroundedthat can easily feel like bosses due to their tedious amounts of health and how little damage player attacks do to them. The Black Ox Beetle is one of those creatures in the Yard.

They don’t have any sinister underhanded attacks like poison, but it takes a Herculean effort to fight them in melee. They can charge, throw dirtballs at any retreating victim, and they soak up damage like a sponge. Players' best bet is to pepper them with arrows while abusing their size and poor AI and getting stuck on the geometry.

5Stinkbug

It’s quite unfortunate that the Stinkbug is an integral part of thecrafting experiencesince their parts are required for gas masks because devils are formidable. Fighting more than one will usually result in a disaster as their poison cloud bombs have an unpredictable pattern.

Thus, fighting them in melee range is usually a death sentence. Players can make the fight a lot more manageable by wearing gas masks, but if they already have gas masks, they usually don’t need to fight Stinkbugs anymore.

4Infected Ladybug

Infected Ladybugs are even worse than Stinkbugs since players can’t just wear gas masks to mitigate their damage. They throw around clusters of fungi bombs that take considerable chunks of health whenever players are caught in the explosion radius.

Thus, fighting them from a good range can prove difficult and players can forget about defeating them with ease in enclosed areas. Even in melee range, they will still lob their fungi bombs; it doesn’t help that their surrounding area also has regenerating fungi bombs.

3Wolf Spiders

Upon seeing a Wolf Spider for the first time, players can immediately note the size difference compared to the regular Orb Weavers. These things are freakishly huge and thus, fights with them take too long to resolve, if at all.

Thankfully, they mostly hunt alone, but they can easily take on a tightly-knit group of four. It takes focused coordination and communication to take them down, as one player will need to act like bait so that others can attack.

2Moth

It’s a good thing Moths are neutral inGrounded, because they’re easily the toughest flying enemy in the game. They’re fast as mosquitoes, and it’s hard to predict their flight patterns so players are forced to attack in small windows (if they’re melee).

The worst part of their existence is their dust cloud attack which will inflict bleedingdamage on players. This functions similarly to poison, though it likely can’t be counteracted with a gas mask. Thankfully, they usually keep to themselves.

1Black Widow

Black Widows inGroundedcertainly live up to their reputation in real life. They’re often categorized by many players as the toughest hostile non-boss creature in the game. They employ a special type of poison that will stack with each attack.

On top of that, there’s no way around their venom as players can’t mitigate it with resistance and tolerance. As if that and the huge health pool weren’t enough, the developers also gave hefty resistance to the Black Widow, making it durable against most damage types. Seriously, that health pool nearly spans most of the screen.
