Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Editionhad a troubled launch, but the three classic titles featured in it are still beloved by fans. The lackluster status of the remasters doesn’t seem to have negatively impacted fan opinions ofGrand Theft Auto 3,Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, andGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas. OneGrand Theft Autofan recently decided to show their support for the series by recreating the iconic Grove Street Gang as LEGO Minifigures.
InGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas,protagonist Carl “C.J.” Johnsonis a former member of the Grove Street Families gang who must rejoin the group after being framed for murder by corrupt police officers. He spends a good chunk of the game working with his younger brother, Sean “Sweet” Johnson, as well as Melvin “Big Smoke” Harris and Lance “Ryder” Wilson. This quartet is one of the most memorable parts of the game.

Reddit user Khanh972 shared a piece of fan art that recreates the Grove Street Gang in theform of LEGO Minifigures. The post appears to show stylized and simplified LEGO versions of C.J., Sweet, Big Smoke, and Ryder beating a fallen member of a rival gang, the Kilo Street Ballas. Although these five characters are all shown as customized LEGO Minifigures apparently rendered in 3D modeling, the background of the image seems to have been taken straight out ofGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A passing figure far in the back of the image is also shown with a model taken straight from the game rather than a Lego version.
The image captures some of the most iconic aspects of each of the main four characters' personalities and appearances, ranging from C.J.’s white tank top to Ryder’s mustache and easily-recognizable sneer. The choice to depict them as LEGO Minifigures gives the image an air of childish joy. However, the sight of four LEGO Minifigures beating a fifth with their fists and a metal baseball bat keeps the fan art tied toGrand Theft Auto's violent aesthetic. This isn’t the first timegamers have recreated C.J.in another style, but it may be one of the most adorable.
As of writing, it appears that other fans are intrigued by Khanh972’s creation. A group of users began discussing a theoreticalLEGOGrand Theft Autogameand how unique death visuals could be implemented with scattering LEGO pieces. Two other users noted that the LEGO Minifigure version of Big Smoke was unexpectedly small, being only the size of the other characters. Another user wondered if Ballas dropped purple studs when defeated.
