It has been confirmed thatHalo Infinitewon’t be released until 2021,which disappointed many fanswho were expecting the game to launch this year. Moreover, much of the game’s story remains a mystery, but it appears that players can get a glimpse ofHalo Infinite’snarrative, long before its release sometime next year.

This window intoHalo Infinite’sstory will be through the new book calledHalo: Shadows of Reach, which is scheduled to release on October 20th and is said to provide some “connective tissues” that will link it to the upcoming game. According to the book’s author, Troy Denning, he was interested in joining the project right from the get-go given that the new book will “whet the appetite” forHalo Infinite. The author also shared that when he was asked to write the book, the main requirement given to him is that it should be a Blue Team novel that contains connective tissues that explore Master Chief’s role inHalo Infinite.

Additionally, Denning also teased thatShadows of Reachwill give players a taste of certain plot points thatHalo Infinitewill fully realize.“Oftentimes, this can mean that certain elements I’m writing in my manuscript are brought to life in parallel with ones being developed forHalo Infinite’sstory and gameplay,” the author explained. Interestingly enough,Halofranchise lead editor Jeremy Patenaude shared in an interview that readers ofShadows of Reachshould expectto be introduced to the Banished, an enemy that serves as the main threat inHalo Infinite.

Microsoft reminded players that whileShadows of Reachhas connections toHalo Infinite’splot, reading the book is not required for players to understand and enjoy the upcoming game’s narrative. However, those who were disappointed withHalo Infinite’sdelay to 2021should definitely check outShadows of Reach, given that it will allow them to get a glimpse of what to expect from the story ofInfiniteonce it’s released sometime in next year.

Meanwhile, rumors swirled this past summer thatHalo Infinitewould be releasing its campaign and multiplayer separately. However, shortly after the rumors surfaced, 343 Industries denied the claims, and now, Xbox Head Phil Spencer said that it might be something “to think about.” In a recent interview with Kotaku, Spencer stressed that whilereleasingHalo Infinite’scampaign and multiplayer separatelyshould be considered, the final decision lies with 343’s Bonnie Ross and her team.
