The next patch forHearthstoneis coming soon, bringing with it the next season for the Battlegrounds mode. With new minions, mechanics, and cosmetics, fans ofHearthstonewill have plenty of new content for Battlegrounds once the patch goes live on January 17.March of the Lich Kingintroduced the Undead creature typeand dual-type minions to the game. Now, these mechanics are being added to Battlegrounds, with 16 Undead and 11 dual-type minions coming in the new patch. Additionally, Professor Putricide is returning to Battlegrounds with a new hero power. This ability lets him combine two Undead minions together to create a custom Undead minion three times a game, potentially making some board-changing creatures.RELATED:Hearthstone Fixing Signature Cards After Fan BacklashIf that were not enough, Season 3 will refresh the Battlegrounds Track. Introduced in Season 2, the Battlegrounds Track is a secondary rewards track players can buy to unlock extra cosmetics and double their hero options when they enter a game. Players can collect boards, emotes, strike animations, andskins themed afterMarch of the Lich King’s battle between the Scourge and Silvermoon City for their Battlegrounds collections.
New Battlegrounds minions, balance changes, and development insights will be revealed over the days before Season 3 begins. Additionally, on January 12, players can tune in to the Professor Putricide’s Build a Team Season 3 preview event, where Battlegrounds players from across three teams will compete while being randomly shuffled around during the contest. Lastly, in light ofWoW’ssuccessful Twitch Drops,Hearthstoneis introducing its first Battlegrounds-specific reward on the streaming platform. Players can earn the Lightkeeper Xyrella skin by watching an hour ofHearthstoneon Twitch between January 17 and January 23.
Battlegrounds is the most popular mode inHearthstone, often having more players than even Standard. Since its introduction in 2019, it has become a cornerstone to the game’s success, with tons of players who prefer it over traditionalHearthstone. These fans are interested to see how the new dual-type minions and Undead will change Battlegrounds, and are excited to acquire thesenewMarch of the Lich King-themed collectibles.
That said, many players are still upset aboutHearthstone’srecent changes to the Battlegrounds mode. Previously, Battlegrounds players were able to unlock Battlegrounds Perks with Gold, or as a part of other bundles. However, the new Season Pass model introduced in Season 2 could only be bought with real money, and was totally separate fromHearthstone’sTavern Pass. Without the Battlegrounds Pass, players can only choose from two heroes during each game, and lose out on most of the cosmetic rewards, leading many players to criticizeHearthstonefor making the game mode pay-to-win.
