It’s been pointed out that Natty’s questline inHogwarts Legacymakes a lot more narrative sense if players choose to go with her to Hogsmeade early in the game.Hogwarts Legacyis an action-RPG, and like many other games in the genre, there’s a big focus on player choice.Hogwarts Legacyplayers get to make all kinds of decisions throughout their adventure, with some decisions having more importance than others.
WhileHogwarts Legacy’s main storyis fairly rigid, there are choices players can make that can impact their relationships and do have some genuine consequences. Some of these bigger choices happen in the various companion questlines that are in the game, with players getting a say in how things turn out for companions Natty (Gryffindor companion Natsai Onai), Poppy Sweeting (Hufflepuff), and Sebastian Sallow (Slytherin).

One of the earliest choices players have to make inHogwarts Legacyis about who they should take with them on their visit to Hogsmeade. Players are given thechoice between Natty and Sebastian. The story plays out pretty much exactly the same regardless of which character players pick, but as pointed out by Reddit user HighResPhotog, Natty’s questline makes a lot more sense if she is the one to go to Hogsmeade with the player character.
If players choose to go to Hogsmeade with Natty, she has an encounter with villains Rookwood and Harlow at the Three Broomsticks. This better explains why Natty is so motivated to take down their criminal enterprise throughoutHogwarts Legacy. Without this initial interaction, Natty’s questline doesn’t hook players in quite the same way as the Poppy Sweeting orSebastian Sallow quests.
Since there isn’t really any difference if players pick Natty or Sebastian togo to Hogsmeade, it seems like it would have made more sense to simply force players to go to the village with Natty. This way, players won’t go to Hogsmeade with Sebastian and rob Natty’s quest of the extra narrative punch it needed to get to the next level.
Of course, that’s not to say that Natty’s questline is a waste if players choose to go with Sebastian to Hogsmeade instead of her. Natty’s quest still has plenty of emotionally-charged moments, and it includes some of the open worldHarry Pottergame’s more intense battles, but it will definitely be enhanced if one sees Natty have theinteraction with Rookwoodand Harlow early in the game.
Hogwarts Legacyis out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4 and a Switch release dropping July 25.
