Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieveshas been released, and it tells a fascinating story in a brilliantly constructed world. The movie is perfect forD&Dfans especially. It takes so much from the game and creates character types that players will recognize all too well.

The main characters inHonor Among Thievesare all built in ways that normalDungeons & Dragonscharacters would be built by players. As such, while the movie is an easy watch for viewers without anyD&Dknowledge, it is also a lot of fun for veteran players and dungeon masters alike.

Edgin in Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves

6Edgin Darvis: Bard

The main character ofHonor Among Thievesis Chris Pine’s Edgin Darvis. Not the typical fierce warrior that many newD&Dfans would expect from such a movie’s protagonist, and manysimilar movies have much different protagonists, Edgin is easily classified. He is ahuman Bard, a lover of music. Like many Bards, he’s the one in the group to constantly convinces others to carry out his plans, no matter how wild they are.

Bards inDungeons & Dragonstraditionally help the party in heavy combat due to their ability to cast spells. So it is safe to assume Edgin may be more capable if there are any sequels toHonor Among Thieves. For now, he has a quick wit, a great ability to distract, and an easy-going nature almost all the time.He is also a former Harper, which proves to have been an extremely resourceful position that taught him a lot of skills.

5Holga Kilgore: Barbarian

On the flip side, the character played by Michelle Rodriguez inHonor Among Thievesis precisely what novices to the world ofDungeons & Dragonswill be expecting out of a leading character. Brutish, tough on the exterior but with a heart of gold, and a love of fighting. Holga Kilgore is ahuman Barbarian class.

Barbarians inDungeons & Dragonsare known casually for their ability to do the heavy lifting in any battle, or any time there is literal heavy lifting to be done. But they are also deeply family-oriented, something that is seen a lot with Holga throughoutHonor Among Thieves. She has the desire for family that connects her to Edgin and Kira, and regrets her past mistakes in losing her own family (which involved a fascinating surprise cameo).

4Simon Aumar: Sorcerer

The one unnatural note about the party inHonor Among Thievesis just how many of the main characters in the movie are humans. There is normally a much wider variety of races in anyD&Dparty, but this was mostly an introduction to the world thatcould be expanded upon in sequels. Since the country of Neverwinter seems to have a wide populace of different races, it is likely that new important characters in any potential sequels will be from a wider variety of backgrounds.

Simon Aumar, played by Justice Smith inHonor Among Thieves, is ahuman Sorcerer. Arguably the character who seems to level up the most over the course of the movie, Simon learns a lot of valuable lessons about how he was always powerful. His family is filled with great sorcerers and at the beginning ofHonor Among Thieves, Simon is seen struggling to perform even simple tricks well. But he masters his magic and learns touse the helm of disjunctionin order to provide the party with their most crucial win, countering Sofina’s time stop in the finale. Without Simon and his levels gained over the course of the movie, the party would never have had a chance.

3Doric: Druid

The character brought to life inHonor Among Thievesby Sophia Lillis is one of the most unique in the main party. Doric has horns, a tail, and the ability to shapeshift into different animals, and many viewers are probably wondering what kind of creature can do all this. The answer is that Doric is aTiefling Druid, aligned with the Emerald Enclave.

Tieflings are known inDungeons & Dragonsas humans that have been mixed with demonic bloodlines. This causes rifts and suspicion between Tieflings and humans, and means they are not normally well-treated. Doric is also a Druid, a type of magic user whose power comes from nature. Since her power comes from the Earth around her and the animals in the world, it is no wonder that Doric is able to transform into animals at will. Doric’s ability to turn into so many types of animals speaks to her already being a high-level Druid by the time the movie begins.

2Xenk Yendar: Paladin

Rege-Jean Page’s wonderful, and at times hilarious, take on aPaladinwho helps out the main party made for some of the finest moments inHonor Among Thieves. Another human character, albeit one who acts strangely compared to the rest of the party, Xenk Yendar is a Paladin.

Paladins are holy warriors and protectors of a certain religion. They have incredible fighting skills and magical abilities taken from their God or Gods, which explains Xenk’s abilities and do-gooder nature. However, one notable point about Xenk that sets him apart is his slow aging. InHonor Among Thieves, he is shown to be well over 100 years old. This is because of the impact that almost being caught in Szass Tam’s beckoning spell had on him when he was a child.

1Forge Fitzwilliam: Rogue

Hugh Grant’s villainous character is a huge thorn in the side of the party duringHonor Among Thieves. Whether he really wants to see much of his world destroyed or seriously only cares about money and power is never really set in stone. He does, however, have some excellently fun linesin the movie.

Forge is the embodiment of ahuman Rogue.Rogues are intelligent, seeking out the weaknesses of their enemies and using those to win in any given situation. Forge loves chaos and outwits everybody for almost the entire movie.
