Wuthering Waveswelcomes new players with a ton of goodies on offer: a completely new world to explore, a compelling story to enjoy, and, most importantly, free 5-star characters to obtain.
Players jumping into the game for the first time will want to know exactly how to unlock these guaranteed 5-stars and how to do so quickly. Here’s everything players need to know.

Players will be able to start pulling for these highly coveted characters during the First Resonance main quest on both standard and limited event banners.
How to Get Three Free 5-Star Characters in Wuthering Waves
Players are guaranteed to obtain two 5-star characters within their first 130 pulls and an additional 5-star character on top of that. Here is how to get them.
First Free 5-Star Character
The first 5-star character players can obtain is from theNovice Convene Banner, the very first banner in the game. To give new players a good start,Wuthering Wavesguarantees players will be able to obtain one of the 5-star characters within 50 pulls.
Second Free 5-Star Character Selector
Players will be able tounlock the free 5-star character selector by completing 50 pulls on the Novice Convene Bannerand unlocking the Beginner’s Choice Convene Banner. The Beginner Banner is a special banner that can be used to select a 5-star character from five possible resonators: Lingyang, Jianxin, Encore, Calcharo, and Verina. Once players decide on the 5-star they want to get, they can start pulling on the Beginner Banner. The selected 5-star will be guaranteed to drop in 80 pulls. The Beginner Banner is hidden until players exhaust all 50 Convenes available on the Novice Banner.
Third Free 5-Star Character Selector (Limited Time)
To apologize forWuthering Waves’rough launch, the developers decided to give their entire player baseanother5-star character selector on top of everything else. Players willnotneed to pull on any banner for this character.The free 5-star character selector will arrive in the in-game mail on June 21, 2025, at 10 AM (UTC+8) and will remain valid till June 07, 2025,for all players with an activeWuthering Wavesaccount.
This comes alongside other features and improvements, like skippable cutscenes and an improved combat system.
Which Character Should You Choose From Free 5-Star Selector in Wuthering Waves
The choice of which 5-star to pick from the selector screen ishighly dependent on which 5-star character players unlocked from the Novice Banner. Completing 50 pulls on the Novice Banner guarantees a random 5-star, and depending on whether players unlocked a DPS or support, the 5-star selector choice will differ.
If players unlocked a DPS character like Calcharo or Lingyang from the Novice Banner,Verinais an easy choice. She’s a universally useful support character that’s likely to remain relevant much longer in the game’s lifespan than flashy DPS characters.
For players who unlocked Verina from the Novice Banner, the choice is a lot more free-form. All the DPS characters are viable, and only the playstyle differs, making it a matter of preference.
Among the four remaining characters,Calcharostands out because he is a pure electro DPS with incredibly high damage output and has perfect synergy with Yinlin, the next featured banner character.
Saving Astrite in Wuthering Waves
Using Astrite to get additional Convenes for the Beginner/Standard Banner is the biggest mistake players can make, especially onfree-to-play (F2P) accounts. Astrite is an incredibly valuable currency that can be converted to aLustrous Tide(Convene for Standard Banners like Beginner) orRadiant Tide(Convene for Event Banners). The conversion rate for both tides is the same:160 = 1. However, players can get quite a few Lustrous Tides just by playing the game and completing objectives, whereas Radiant Tide is much rarer.
Ifplayers are looking to reroll their accounts, using Astrite to fast-track the Novice Banner may be worth it.
There is no reason to rush to unlock the 5-star character selector because unlocking the Beginner’s Convene Banner is just the first step. Players will still need to pull on this banner, which will cost a lot of Convenes.
