Summary
The disaster curses are some of the strongest cursed spirits inJujutsu Kaisen. These curses are the amalgamation of humanity’s greatest fears, and their danger to the jujutsu world reflects that.
The disaster curses are the special grade curses Jogo, Hanami, Mahito, and Dagon. Together, they are allied with Pseudo-Geto for the end goal of getting rid of Gojo and exterminating humanity. They are important antagonists inJujutsu Kaisen, but what caused them to sprout into existence and wreak havoc?

Jogo
Jogo is the first disaster curse introduced in the show. Jogo is born of humanity’s fear of fire-related disasters, such as volcanic eruptions. This is whyhis cursed technique, Disaster Flames, allows him to use highly potent cursed volcanic fire.
While initially thought to be weak after he got thrashed by Gojo, as the show progressed his incredible power became apparent. Jogo is as strong as about nine of Sukuna’s fingers, according to Kenjaku, and that showed in the way he was easily able to dispatch two grade one sorcerers in Kento Nanami and Naobito Zenin, with ease.Sukuna also hailed him as one of the stronger fightershe has fought, even compared to the sorcerers and curses he fought thousands of years ago. This is significant praise in and of itself from the king of curses.

Hanami
Hanami was introduced in the Kyoto Goodwill Event arc and immediately made an impact with his significant power. Hanami was created from humanity’s fear of land-based natural disasters such as earthquakes. His origins show in the fact that his motivation to exterminate humanity stems from humanity’s mistreatment of nature rather than from pure hatred or envy. His cursed technique is also earth-related. His technique, Disaster Plants, allows him to manifest deadly cursed plants and manipulate them.
Hanami inherently has an immense amount of cursed energy, but not as much as Jogo. He is also known for being incredibly durable, as he was able to take four consecutive black flashes from Yuji Itadori, along with taking a significant beating from Itadori’s and Aoi Todo’s combined boogie-woogie mayhem. He proved to be too arrogant for his own good inthe subway battle against Gojo. The honored one killed him easily the moment he released his domain amplification against Jogo’s advice.

Dagon
Dagon was introduced in the Shibuya Incident arc, but his domain made an appearance far before he did. Dagon was born from humanity’s fear of the sea and the creatures that dwell within it. The ocean is a mysterious and powerful force, and Dagon’s character is no different.Dagon’s cursed technique, Disaster Tides, allows him to create and manipulate water and marine life. This technique is insanely powerful, especially when coupled with his domain, which would have defeated Nanami, Naobito, Maki, and Megumi had it not been for Toji Fushiguro’s interference.
Dagon was initially shy and timid as a cursed womb. He was mostly on the sidelines and kept his domain open so Kenjaku and the team could have a place to meet and hide while they were plotting their next move. Upon noticing Hanami had died, he snapped and transformed into a full-fledged cursed spirit through his rage. He quickly proved to be an incredibly powerful cursed spirit in his battle against Nanami, Naobito, Maki, and Megumi. However, his inexperience led to his end at thehands of Toji Fushigurobecause he underestimated him due to his lack of cursed energy, not understanding that it was a heavenly restriction that made him that way.

Mahito
Perhaps the most dangerous of all the disaster curses is Mahito. Mahito is created out of the fear and hatred humans have for one another. This shows in his nature, as he is a selfish and cold-hearted murderer who enjoys killing humans for his own ends. His cursed technique, Idle Transfiguration, is one of the strongest in the series. With this technique, Mahito has the ability to manipulate and alter souls, including his own. This makes him able to turn humans into cursed humanoids with just a touch and makes physical attacks useless against him. On top of this, he has a massive amount of cursed energy.
Mahito has been a thorn in the side of Jujutsu High since he first fought Yuji. He especially has it out for Itadori, as he considers him his mortal enemy and is set on killing him. Mahito is responsible for the deaths of some of the most beloved characters in the series, like Nanami and Nobara Kugisaki.
The disaster curses are antagonists who have played a pivotal role inJujutsu Kaisenin their own way. Each curse’s ability and origin illustrates beautifully the creativity that is seen in the series time and time again. Deriving from humanity’s greatest fears, these curses are the perfect representation of what acursed spirit is supposed to be.
