Sony reveals a new limited editionGod of War RagnarokPS5 DualSense controller at theState of Play. Many fans didn’t expect Kratos and Atreus to show up here, as this wasn’t the anticipated PlayStation Showcase, and it was billed as focusing on Sony’s Japanese partners. Still, every event needs a “one more thing” reveal and Sony delivered with two.

A newGod of War Ragnaroktrailer was shown, focusing on the story and how Atreus seems to be taking on a major role. It showsKratos battling Thor, shows a mysterious figure likely to be Odin speaking to Atreus, and highlights the leading pair shooting the sun alongside Fenrir. A lot was left unsaid, but Sony did reveal several details about the controller.

Before airing the trailer, Sony showed off the new controller (as seen below). This DualSense is blue and white, fitting the general color scheme ofGod of War’s Norse adventures, and there are two wolves in the center. It’s unknown yet if these two wolves represent Kratos and Atreus somehow or if they represent Atreus and Fenrir, givenAtreus' hidden name inGod of War.

Fans should be aware that this is a limited edition controller, meaningGod of War Ragnarokfans should act quickly to get it locked in. The controller releases day and date with the new game, on November 9, and pre-orders for it will go live in two weeks' time, on September 27.

What’s notable, however, is how littleGod of War Ragnarokgameplay has been shown. The story trailer is no doubt welcome and this controller is no doubt enticing, but both have to connect to the gameplay in some way. Sony and Santa Monica have revealed some details aboutGod of War Ragnarok’s combat, but it hasn’t been much so far, with just minutes of gameplay shown here and there. The trailer gives a few more glimpses, but still, nothing solid. Many fans are likely still hoping to see more sometime this month.

After all, this State of Play was focused largely on partners, not first-party games.God of War Ragnarokwas a surprise here, but many expected it to appear at a PlayStation Showcase. There have been plenty ofrumors about a PlayStation Showcase, not a State of Play, and many think it’ll still happen later this month. Perhaps gameplay will be the focus there, after this State of Play set up everything else, including one way fans can engage with that gameplay.

God of War Ragnarokreleases November 9 on PS4 and PS5.
