The first official look ofCreed 3has officially been revealed, featuring Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors in brand-new character posters as they prepare to face off in the highly-anticipated third installment of theCreedfranchise. The MGM film looked to hit theaters this Thanksgiving holiday before shifting to its newly established March 2023 release.

Jordan will step into the ring for the third time in the fast approachingMGMfilm and will serve as director, the first time the 35-year-old actor has stepped behind the camera. TheCreedfranchise is a spinoff of theSylvester StalloneRockyfilmsand centers around Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky Balboa’s close friend and competitor, Apollo Creed. Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad will return to reprise their roles, alongside Majors as the franchise’s new antagonist.

Jordan revealed the first official look atCreed 3’s main centerpieces via Twitter, introducing audiences to Majors' cryptic character, Damian Anderson. The character posters do not reveal much about the synopsis for the film, but it does begin to lay breadcrumbs that reveal pieces to an even bigger puzzle. Together the posters reveal the film’s tagline, “you may’t run from your past,” which indicates that the thread presumably connecting the two characters is deeply personal.

News of Majors involvement inCreed 3surfaced in June 2021, but details surrounding his character remain locked behind closed doors. TheAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniastar has provided subtle details about his character’s cryptic story, highlighting that his ripped physique paints a picture of loss and unhappiness in his character. Majors will begin 2023 in a new arena that many audiences will be unfamiliar with as the star heads down the villainous path of an antagonist. Kang The Conqueror will be the actor’s first malicious endeavor before appearing as Damian, a role that will look to contain emotional complexity inside and outside the ring.

Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin wrote the screenplay forCreed 3, which surfaced from a story byBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverdirector Ryan Coogler, who directed the original 2015Creed. The franchise has released two installments and has grossed over $200 million domestically and $300 million worldwide.Creed 3will look to continue the momentum of the franchise while competing againstDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which will hit theaters the on same day. There is much excitement behind Jordan’s directorial debut, but only time will tell if he can maintain the essence ofCreed.
