Nintendo struck gold with itsSuper Smash Bros.fighting game series. The concept sees popular video game characters from a variety of franchises duking it out in stages themed after their games and has become extremely popular since the original released for the Nintendo 64. Other companies have followed inSuper Smash Bros.' footsteps, like with theNickelodeon-themed fighterNickelodeon All-Star Brawland the smaller-scaleBrawlhallafrom Ubisoft. Now Warner Bros. is throwing its hat in the ring withMultiVersus, a crossover fighting game that features characters from various WB properties.
MultiVersuswas first revealed late last year with a trailerthat confirmed just how diverse the game’s roster would be. The initial trailer confirmed the likes of Batman, Shaggy fromScooby-Doo, Arya Stark ofGame of Thronesfame, and more. And now WB has released a brand-new cinematic trailer forMultiVersusthat confirms three more characters for the ever-expanding roster, while also confirming when the open beta is coming.

As seen in the newMultiVersuscinematic trailer, the Tasmanian Devil fromLooney Tunes, The Iron Giant, and Velma fromScooby-Dooare joining the lineup of playable characters. Those interested in trying the game for themselves can try signing up for theMultiVersusclosed alpha, taking place from May 19 to May 27, with 15 playable characters available. 16 characters have been revealed so far, and so it seems The Iron Giant is being left out of the closed alpha.
MultiVersus Roster
Those who would rather wait for theMultiVersusopen beta should note that it’s scheduled to start at some point in July. A specific start date for the open beta has not been revealed at the time of this writing, but more information should come to light as we get closer to its start date. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what else is revealed forMultiVersusbetween now and the beta start date. Perhaps moreMultiVersusstageswill be revealed, or maybe even more characters will be shown off.
So far, the free-to-playMultiVersusseems to be going to great lengths to appeal to fans, with an impressive roster of characters and nods to memes likeUltra Instinct Shaggy. It’s too early to say if the game will be able to stand toe-to-toe with the likes ofSuper Smash Bros., but it wouldn’t be for lack of trying.
