Summary

Closing out its 2024 Days of Play event, Sony has made a last batch of free avatars available for PlayStation users. The annual event is a great chance for PS4 and PS5 owners to add to their ever-growing backlog of games by taking advantage of some major discounts on the PlayStation Store. This year,Days of Play kicked off on May 29and lasted through June 12, and it started by giving gamers a set of five free avatars and offering promotions on nearly 500 titles.

PlayStation’s Days of Play also brings the gaming community together with some simple activities that result in fun rewards. In 2024, there were three community challenges: playing 2.5 million hours inAstro’s Playroom, earning 200 million trophies in any game, and playing 10,000 unique games. Though these numbers initially seemed astronomical,PlayStationgamers rose to the challenge and even surpassed the final task’s goal by a few thousand games.

As a final reward to the PlayStation community for participating in Days of Play, Sony has released four more free avatars, featuring one of the platform’s most loved mascots, Astro Bot. These avatars can be redeemed through July 13, 2025, so it’s a good idea to grab them now. And for anybody wondering, unfortunately, the set of avatars that were given away when Days of Play began on May 29 are no longer available.

During Days of Play,PlayStation also launched special campaigns for Stars, the loyalty program that rewards gamers with digital collectibles and points. Accessible only through the PlayStation app, Stars allows players to complete challenges and unlock digital items that can then be displayed in a virtual trophy case. Earned points can be redeemed to buy rare collectibles or exchanged for PSN wallet funds to purchase real games. These challenges are typically not very difficult. For example, during Days of Play, one of the tasks required players to unlock the first trophy in the indie gameDredge.

PS5

Sony’s PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
