Mario Strikers: Battle Leagueis an upcomingMariospinoff title. It is the thirdSuper Mario Strikersgame, and the first for the Nintendo Switch. WhereSuper Mario Strikers, andMario Strikers Chargedwere released within a couple of years of each other, it has been a15-year wait forMario Strikers: Battle League, leading to a lot of hype generated around the game. Now, Nintendo has unveiled some of the core gameplay elements players will see in the newest soccer-inspired spinoff.

The latest gameplay trailer forMario Strikers: Battle Leagueruns just short of five minutes, but Nintendo manages to squeeze in a lot of detail for a relatively short video. First, there is some general gameplay showing off the new look forBattle League. Following that, the video gets right into one of the new mechanics, which allows players to use tackles in order to boost their teammates forward. Instead of slamming a competitor into the ground, a tackle in the newMario Strikerscan send a friendly character right towards the goal, setting up some quick and powerful shots.

Speaking of which, the new gameplay trailer also shows off the Hyper Strikes. Unlike the Mega Strikes ofMario Strikers Charged,Hyper Strikes inMario Strikers: Battle Leaguedon’t come from a player holding down the strike button. Instead, they appear on the pitch as power-ups, free for any player to pick up and use for a devastating attack. Once the golden orb drops, it is a free-for-all to see which team picks it up. Rather than just being available for team Captains as well, any character inMario Strikers: Battle Leaguecan send off a Hyper Strike.

Following a look at the new strikes, the trailer then shows off the customizable gear available in the newMario Strikers.Gear can be applied to any character to increase or decrease certain statistics. For example, certain boots can make a character better at dribbling, but worse at taking tackles. Even with fewer playable characters than previousMario Strikersentries,Battle Leagueappears more focused on making different variations of those characters, allowing players to make a nimble Bowser and powerhouse Yoshi. This means that the characters that used to be deemedsidekicks in Mario Strikersnow have a bigger role to play on the team as well.

Finally, fans got a closer look into theonline modes inMario Strikers: Battle League. As expected, through Nintendo Switch Online players will be able to compete against one another across the world. This has been marked by fans as something that will changeMario Strikers, allowing the local classic to have a new competitive edge.
