One of the things that immediately becomes evident about the staff behindOshi no Kois the fact that the producers had great intent to turn the manga into an anime series. The animation producer, Ryo Kobayashi, came into contact with series character designer Kanna Hirayama, who messaged Kobayashi telling him that the next project she wanted to be involved in was the creation of the Oshi no Ko anime.
Having been introduced to the series through her, Kobayashi read through a few chapters of the manga and decided that he really wants to work on it too. As animation producer, Kobayashi explains that his selection process, while definitely focused on the abilities of the people he wants to bring aboard, is also largely determined by their passion for the project.
As is evident in the documentary, the various staff members involved are highly enthusiastic about the production of the series. The director of theOshi no Koanime series, Daisuke Hiramaki, as well as producer Shinpei Yamashita talked about how the staff members are all big fans of the original manga and did not want to chop up the events of the first volume into smaller bits in favour of preserving the various important scenes in the manga. The 90-minute runtime of episode 1 was the consequence of the series staff’s immense passion for the project, and inability to relegate certain moments in the manga to maintain the most important aspects of the series of events that constitute theOshi no Kostory’s set-up.
Hiramaki mentions feeling compelled to recreate the manga in its entirety, while the assistant director, Ciao Nekotomi, complimented the character designer Hirayama on her ability to create expressive and beautiful character designs. The staff at Doga Kobo received some tips and insight from theoriginal manga’s creators Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyariin the creation of the series, especially in the process of designing the characters, particularly when it came to the stars in the eyes of characters like Ai, Aqua and Ruby. The documentary while brief, is an interesting insight into the work that went into creating that absolute hit of a first episode.Oshi no Kobegan airing on April 12, and each new episode is released on Wednesdays.
