One of the latest additions toOverwatch 2’s hero roster, Lifeweaver, is featured in a neat Easter egg on one of the game’s newest maps, Suravasa. Lifeweaver was added toOverwatch 2as part of Season 4 earlier in the year and is a Support hero hailing from Thailand who uses Biolight technology to heal allies.Part ofOverwatch 2’s massive Season 6 Invasion update saw the addition of the new core game mode Flashpoint. As the first new permanent mode since the introduction of Push,Flashpoint is a faster-paced mode, having two teams fight over control of multiple points on large, winding maps, needing three captures in total to win. The mode launched with two dedicated maps in New Junk City and Suravasa. The latter, set in India, has ties to the corrupt Vishkar Corporation and, by extension, Symmetra.RELATED:Overwatch 2 Lifeweaver Play Ends In Absolute DisasterOverwatchhas always been very good with incorporating small tidbits of lore and character nods hidden away in its maps. On Twitter, Overwatch Cavalry posted a finding from the game’s newest Suravasa Flashpoint map. The image features Support hero Lifeweaver standing beside what looks to be a wanted poster with his face on it. During his rollout, Lifeweaver was accompanied by a short 2D animated trailer which explained that the Thai scientist was once astudent at the Vishkar Academywho created a technology called Biolight. The Vishkar Corporation sought to gain control over Lifeweaver’s Biolight creation, causing Lifeweaver to flee the academy with the hope of using Biologht to help people around the world.
This Easter egg, while a neat nod to one of the newer heroes, indicates that Lifeweaver’s story is far from over and that he’s still seemingly being hunted by Vishkar for the control of Biolight. Blizzard has been known for producing incredible 3D animated cinematics for some of the more prominentOverwatchheroes throughout the years. Thelatest DPS hero Sojournhas just received one which helped set up the launch of Season 6 Invasion. Perhaps this Suravasa Easter egg could be hinting that a cinematic short exploring Lifeweaver’s origins, escape from Vishkar, or even his connection to Symmetra could be in the works.
Considering that Symmetra, an originalOverwatchhero, has yet to appear in a cinematic, it seems increasingly likely that she’d make an appearance alongside Lifeweaver in a potential animated short. If a Lifeweaver cinematic is indeed in the works, it’ll likely be a while before it sees the light of day, asSojourn’s short has just freshly releasedand they seem to take a long time to make. With Season 6 ofOverwatch 2having just begun, bringing new maps, modes, features, and new support hero Illari to the table, it’ll surely be a few months before any potential word comes out about what’s next for Lifeweaver’s story.
Overwatch 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
