Persona 4 Goldenis filled with a staggering amount of quest items each offering unique rewards that stack and build on one another to make the experience feel truly unique to the player. These optional quests are not necessary to be able to succeed inPersona 4, but they certainly offer some of the most powerful acquisitions the game has to offer.
Catching bugs may not sound like themost glamorous activity in Inaba. It is also not an inherently obvious quest, as no one necessarily directs the player to engage in this particular activity without doing a bit of legwork first. However, the reward for catching bugs features the opportunity for unlocking a rare achievement (or trophy) as well as providing the player with the best fishing bait available in the game. To catch bugs, the player must first acquire the bug net, also called the butterfly net.

How to Catch Bugs
Simply trying to purchase a bug-catching net will leave the player scratching their head and wondering when it is going to show up. Instead, head to the shrine. During the daytime beginning in early June, the player will notice a boy near the shrine who laments about his missing bug-catching net. It is not required to approach him in early June, but beginning June 5th, he will mention the net in question and begin this secret quest.
Return to the shrine at night and approach the lady in white. It should be noted thatthe player’s courage needs to be leveled upin order to approach the shrine at night, otherwise the player character will be too afraid to even get near it.
The lady in white will first ask about a Red Goldfish. Interact with her again and she will mention there is a net on the roof. When prompted, select ‘Yes’ to collect the butterfly net. Attempt to deliver the net back to the boy at the shrine during the day, and he will instead teach the player how to catch bugs.
The mini-game is relatively simple. It requires precision in pressing the button with perfect timing. A perfect swing will unlock the aforementioned achievement/trophy ‘Bug Hunter’.
Important Things To Note When Catching Bugs
For starters, catching bugs does not pass time, so do not be afraid to venture into the shrine for a quick bug catch for fear of missing out on some qualitybonding time with companions.
There are bug-catching books that will become available in the bookshop. Catching Bugs is available June 11th, and it costs 1800 yen. World Class Bugs is available November 1st, and it costs 4800 yen. Reading these books will allow the player to catch more bugs during the mini-game increasing the odds of a rare find.
As previously mentioned, there is no necessity to snag the butterfly net as soon as it becomes available. If the player misses the opportunity in early June, simply repeat the process and continuevisiting the shrine at nightuntil the lady in white shows up again.
The best way to use bugs isas bait for fishing. Each bait bug will result in the acquisition of a different fish. The more rare the bug, the more rare the fish. Fish can be traded for gemstones in Shiroku Pub. The best places to fish are the Samegawa River and the Shichiri Beach, the latter of which can be accessed once the player has built up their courage in riding their scooter. Everything in Persona 4 builds to be beneficial to something else. Always remember to play with curiosity because who knows when something will prove to be valuablein this eccentric world?
