The launch date of bothPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlis drawing closer by the day, but while this updated re-release appears to have added a variety of new tweaks and features to the originalPokemon DiamondandPearl, it also seems to have removed a few things. A new Japanese overview trailer released online seems to confirm that the Battle Frontier will not be returning in the Gen 4 remakes.
Although there is no formal announcement as of yet that the Battle Frontier won’t be inPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, signs certainly seem to be pointing in that direction. The Battle Frontier is aPokemon Platinumexclusive consisting of five different facilities, including the Battle Tower. In the Battle Frontier, players could take on NPC trainers in several battle formats, win Battle Points, and exchange those points for valuable items.

Unlike the rest of the Battle Frontier, the Battle Tower made its first appearance in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and it is clearly shown on the world map featured inPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl’s overview trailer. However, the rest of the Battle Frontier seems to be missing. Additionally, the Battle Park that the Battle Frontier replaced is also visible on the map, suggesting thatPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwill be aiming to recapture the world ofPokemon DiamondandPearlrather than Platinum.
This may not be a surprise to gamers, as the Battle Frontier was also missing fromPokemon Omega RubyandAlpha Sapphiredespite having been originally introduced inPokémon Emerald. It did make an appearance inPokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver, but the feature hasn’t been seen in anyPokemongames since. While its apparent absence may be disappointing to fans, the Battle Frontier is far from the only feature that seems to have been removed fromPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl.
As of writing, it appears that fans are reluctantly accepting of this news. One group of Redditors started a debate over whether or not the latestPokemongames, includingPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, are being phoned in. One user noted that Game Freak’s constant cutting of corners may be linked to a perceived subtle defeatist attitude, where Game Freak assumes thatPokemonfans will be more interested in mobile games than console games. Another user stated that a version of Battle Frontier available inPokemon Homewould be incredible. While fans will need to wait and see if the feature is indeed being removed, a return does seem unlikely.
