Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s new Indigo Disk DLC has finally made it so Blastoise’s Hydro Pump attack comes out of his cannons. Blastoise is easily one of the most popular and recognizable Pokemon in franchise history. Serving as the cover Pokemon forPokemon Blue, Blastoise has been featured in almost everyPokemongame in some capacity. However,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwere initially an exception to the rule.

Blastoise was not part of the initialPokemon Scarlet and VioletPokedex, meaning fans were unable to add the popular Water-type Pokemon to their roster. That’s changed with the recently-releasedPokemon Scarlet and VioletIndigo Disk DLC, which gives players the chance to get not only Blastoise, but Venusaur and Charizard as well.

Special versions of Charizardhave previously been obtainable inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthanks to Tera Raids and Mystery Gift codes, which makes the debuts of Venusaur and Blastoise a bit more exciting for Gen 1 fans. As far as Blastoise goes, fans will be delighted to learn that Game Freak has finally adjusted how its Hydro Pump attack works. Instead of the water blast shooting out from Blastoise’s face as it’s been depicted in all the 3D Game Freak-developed games so far, the attack actually comes out of Blastoise’s cannons. This was pointed out by PLDH on Twitter, who also noted the extra textures and detail on Blastoise’s shell.

As early asPokemon Stadiumin 1999,Pokemonspin-off gameshave depicted Blastoise’s Hydro Pump attack as coming from the cannons in his shell. However, since 2013’sPokemon X and Y, the 3DPokemongames developed by Game Freak have had a far more generic animation, showing Blastoise’s Hydro Pump shooting out of his face instead of his cannons. A YouTube video by Mixeli shows how Blastoise’s Hydro Pump attack has evolved over the years, underlining how the attack has continuously missed the opportunity to come from Blastoise’s cannons.

Luckily for Blastoise fans,Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave finally addressed the issue, 10 years afterPokemon X and Y’s debut on the 3DS. Moving forward, fans should be able to expect Blastoise’s Hydro Pump animation to utilize his cannons, though it’s always possible that futurePokemongames will revert to the less-impressive animation. Only time will tell what futurePokemongames have in store, but for now, franchise fans can focus on catching Blastoise and all thenew Pokemon addedas part ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC.
