Forgetting to save is a mistake made commonly by gamers everywhere, with onePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer sharing the unfortunate tale of how this classic blunder led to them missing out on a rare shiny Pokemon that they encountered in the Paldea region. ManyPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers that have a long history with the franchise have surely had similar experiences of their own, with the olderPokemongames' lack of autosave often leading to the accidental loss of players' progress.
While more recent titles in the belovedPokemonfranchise do feature an optional autosave feature, it, unfortunately, hasn’t been enough for forgetful players in the heat of some rare moments. With wild Pokemon now visible as they roam freely around the overworld, encountering rare shiny Pokemon inPokemon Scarlet and Violethas arguably become easier, though veteran shiny hunters will make it their top priority to save their game as soon as they spot one in the wild. This simple practice is an essential habit for shiny-seeking players to get used to, as saving beforehand ensures that a Trainer can have another go at obtaining a wild shiny Pokemon if the first capture attempt goes south.

As expected though, it can be easy to bypass this step in the excitement of the moment. This was demonstrated in a clip shared on Reddit by the user Clodsie, where they permanently missed out on their chance to catch a shiny Brute Bonnet due to their mistake. The clip shows the player spotting the shiny Pokemon in a part of the Paldea region that spoiler-wary players might want to avoid looking at, with thePokemon close to a steep cliff. Afraid that it might fall, the player can be seen leaping at the Brute Bonnet with the hopes of initiating a battle, only to overstep their mark and plummet into the depths themselves.
Unlike inPokemon Legends: Arceus, falling from heights inScarlet and Violetthankfully poses no severe risk to Trainers. Even so, countless other clips provided by fans have proven that both NPCs and Pokemon are fully capable of walking off a cliff, and there has been no end of similar instances where Trainers havemissed out on catching a shiny Pokemon due to glitches.
In fact, glitches have been startlingly common throughoutPokemon Scarlet and Violetsince the day the games launched. While the vast majority of the games' bugs have led to hilarious moments rather than annoying interruptions, some known bugs such as those causing wild Pokemon to phase through terrain have been a cause of irritation for dedicated shiny hunters. While many fans are hoping that some such bugs are fixed in an upcoming patch, players should nonetheless ensure that they save their games the moment they spot a shiny to ensure that their chance encounter doesn’t result in a similar tragedy.
