Known as the Big Catfish Pokemon, Dondozo is a Water Pokemon that first appeared inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Despite its massive size and gaping maw, Dondozo is depicted as a dim-witted Pokemon that relies on its partnership with Tatsugiri to catch prey. This is reflected in Dondozo’s signature move, Order Up, a Dragon-type attack that increases the user’s stats in Double Battles when a Tatsugiri fights alongside it. However, Dondozo the Unrivaled instead uses the moves Wave Crash, Earthquake, Order Up, Avalanche, Curse, and Yawn. Unlikeother Seven-Star Tera Raid bosses inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, Dondozo uses one of its standard Abilities, Unaware, instead of its Hidden Ability, Water Veil.
Since Dondozo the Unrivaled remains a Water Pokemon even when Terastallized, somePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers have developed a strategy to expose its weaknesses. On the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, some players posted videos of their victories over Dondozo thanks to the Legendary Paradox Pokemon called Miraidon. Though Miraidon adorns the cover ofPokemon Violet, that has not stopped the Electric and Dragon dual-type monster fromwreaking havoc in regulatedPokemoncompetitions. In one video that took five turns, aPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer named Flameduck took five turns before dealing a decisive strike against Dondozo the Unrivaled. In the first four turns, Miraidon used Metal Sound twice and Charge once to weaken Dondozo’s defenses and bolster its power.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Players Share Dondozo One-Shot Strategies
Flameduck then used an Attack Cheer to increase Miraidon’s potency before using Electro Drift to finish the job, sincepowerful Electric Pokemonare a direct counter to Water types like Dondozo. In a similar strategy, another user named PlayerGen87 omitted using an Attack Cheer but used both Metal Sound and Charge as part of its preparations. BothPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers said that they increased Miraidon’s special attack effort values (EVs) to the maximum, and had it hold a Life Orb to further increase its attack power.
The Miraidon strategy will only work if used before Dondozo the Unrivaled puts its shield up, soPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers must act quickly. With both Dondozo andPikachu quickly falling to seasonedPokemonplayers, only time will tell what strategies will follow in future raids.
