Pokemon SwordandShieldplayers have been grappling with whether or not Dusk Balls have any bonuses when used during the day in Max Raid dens. One player decided to find out the truth, and they fought in 60Max Raidsto see if this is really the case. Their results went viral.

ThoughPokemon SwordandShieldhasn’t been around for a long time, Dusk Balls were introduced to thePokemonfranchise duringGen 4. These special Pokeballs give trainers a boost when they attempt to catch Pokemon at night or when inside a cave. However, some players have argued that dens could be considered a cavern, and thus these Pokeballs would have their bonuses added to these encounters as well, even during the day. However, one player discovered the truth in this case.

ThePokemon SwordandShieldplayer, who goes by the screenname yunglist, posted their findings after they fought 60 Max Raids at various times and with both regular Pokeballs. Though many players assumed that Dusk Balls had no extra effects in these situations, this fan wanted to prove that this is the case beyond the shadow of a doubt.

To do this, the player fought a three-star Gastrodon on August 19, reloading after each attempt, and recording the results of the firstPokeballused. The study was broken up into three sections with 20 attempts each: one using ordinary Pokeballs as a control to compare the others, one using Dusk Balls during the day, and one using Dusk Balls during the night.

The player organized their results into a table of information. According to the Reddit post, the Pokeball caught theGastrodonon the first try 60% of the time. However, Dusk Balls used during the day were even less effective and only worked 45% of the time. When the player used Dusk Balls at night on the Pokemon, there was a clear difference from the other two groups as it worked every single time. With these results, it’s clear that Raid dens don’t count as caverns, andPokemonplayers can now put this myth to rest.
