Summary

TheInjusticeseries of fighting video gamesdepicts a version of theDCuniverse where Superman has taken over the planet and recruited some other heroes and villains to rule as a dictator. As fans would expect, the roster of playable characters in these games features a long list of faces fromDC Comics. This means that players can choose to fight as Batman, Superman. Flash, The Joker, Lex Luthor, and many others.

The first game in this series saw many heroes, led by Batman, traveling to this alternate Earth to topple the evil regime, and Superman is the final boss. With the Superman of this Earth indisposed, the second game in the series sees the villain Brainiac arrive on Earth and try to take it over. However, both sides of the regime must work together to beat him. While no third installment in this franchise has been announced yet, it seems logical that the main villain for the next game should be Darkseid for several reasons.

Darkseid Is The Natural Endgame in Most DC Stories

The villain, Darkseid, has been part of the DC Comics universe since 1970.This huge brute is the ruler of a planet called Apokalypse, and his lust for ultimate power in the universe often sees him sending his minions to seize valuable objects, such as mother boxes or the anti-life equation, to help him increase his dominance as a powerful presence. These villainous goals obviously see him clash with the Justice League, as the DC team tries to protect Earth and other life forms from the threat of Darkseid.

As a result, Darkseid is often one of the more powerful enemies of the Justice League. He is someone that all stories in this universe eventually build up to, almost like Thanos in the MCU. With two games in the series already,Injustice 3is the perfect time to bring in a threat as big as Darkseid. With his ability to wipe out entire parts of the universe, he is definitely a step up from previous main antagonists in the franchise.

Injustice 2 Superman V Darkseid

4He Has Been A Playable Character Before

Darkseid Is Established In The Injustice Universe

The roster of characters in the Injustice games aren’t the only playable options in the game. In fact, both games in the series so far have included certain playable characters as optional DLC. ForInjustice 2, one of the optional purchases was Darkseid.

Such an inclusion establishes that Darkseid is a character who already exists in this version of the DC universe, without having too much impact on the main plot. Plus, many players will have used Darkseid and get to familiarize themselves with the character already. This means less work needs to be put into explaining this character and their powerset in the future. The developers could just upload the model of this version of Darkseid into the next game, or choose to expand his powers to make him more of a threat.

Injustice 2 Brainiac Stage

3The Stage

Darkseid Deserves His Own Map

Part of the fun of the Injustice games is that the battles each take place in iconic locations from the DC Comics universe. Players can choose to fight in The Fortress of Solitude, The Bat cave, Atlantis, and many other familiar locations. When Brainiac arrived inInjustice 2, he even brought with him the interior of his ship to be used as the background for the fights in the game.

Therefore, it would only make sense that Darkseid would do the same if he were to be included as the main villain inInjustice 3. However, instead of using a spaceship, a Darkseid stage could allow the player to fight on the surface of another planet. Such an inclusion would give players a great look at what Apokalypse looks like in this universe, and it would be fun to throw opponents around Darkseid’s throne room.

2New Characters

Darkseid Rarely Acts Alone

One of the main aspects of Darkseid is that he never works alone. As the leader of the race known as the New Gods, Darkseid has plenty of minions who are happy to do his bidding. Most of these have become iconic DC villains in their own right, so including Darkseid as the main villain in the next game means there is a chance for the developers to include another roster of characters alongside him.

It is normal fora new entry in a fighting game series to include several new characters. Therefore,Injustice 3could make a huge first impression on players by adding characters like Steppenwolf, Desaad, and Granny Goodness to the next roster.

Injustice Batman V Superman

1Something Big Enough To Unite Batman and Superman

Darkseid Would Further The Main Story

The main story that has run through bothInjusticegames and the tie-in comics is the rivalry between Batman and Superman. After The Joker tricked Superman into killing a pregnant Lois Lane, the Kryptonian turned his back on humanity and decided to rule the world by establishing a harsh police force known as The Regime. Naturally, Batman is against this idea, and so spends his nights trying to topple this new dictator. As a result, this pair of iconic DC superheroes are locked in a seemingly never-ending feud.

However, these two titans, and their allies, were able to put their differences aside to fight Brainiac when he tried to destroy their Earth. Unfortunately, their conflict started again once the main villain was defeated. The arrival of Darkseid in the third game could see these two uniting once more, and continue a discussion about the feud that has been central to the story of this franchise.
