Kingofdunsparce took to TikTok to post a video explaining an interesting detail about Leon in the beginning section of the original game when he encounters the first villager inside their home. When Leon questions the villager about the whereabouts of Ashley, the President’s daughter, the villager does not take kindly to Leon’s intrusion. Kingofdunsparce points out that the villager threatens Leon in their native tongue, and that the cutscene insinuates that Leon does not speak Spanish because he chooses not to engage, and instead turns his back to leave. When theLas Plagas infected villagerattacks, Leon is forced to kill them. Later in the game, Leon is seen translating documents that are clearly written in Spanish, showing that he does in fact speak the native’s language, making the aforementioned scene at the beginning puzzling.

This detail may cause players to question Leon on how he chose to approach the situation, as entering a stranger’s home in a foreign country for intel-gathering purposes might not the best of choices. However, there may be other insinuated explanations for why Leon chose not to exchange further words with the villager, seeing as how he knows Spanish, other than it being an inconsistency in presentation. It can also be assumed, based on how Leon backed away from the villager, that he was able to fully understand the villager’s threat and that it was sufficient for Leon to leave without saying anything else. At least players can’t question Leon’s fashion choices, as he still has thefashionable jacket fromResident Evil 4that he is known for in the remake.

This interesting detail seems to raise questions about Leon, and could be something that the remake ofResident Evil 4addresses. Nonetheless, this specific villager and otherin the remake, so the context around certain events, such as this one, could change as well.
